User programmable dashboard?

    I would be much happier if I could choose the content and layout of my Prius' dashboard, much like one would arrange their desktop on a computer. I'm sure there are mandatory items like a speedometer, fuel gauge, CEL, etc. but everything else should be up for grabs. This is what I would like:

    - "analog" speedometer with 65mph straight up
    - "analog" or bargraph engine coolant temperature gauge with warning led
    - "analog" or bargraph inverter coolant temperature gauge with warning led
    - "analog" or bargraph fuel gauge and the big yellow ISO low-fuel icon
    - a background that changes color when headlamps are on
    - a 12v battery voltage display that is always on (LCD) with an LED that flashes below some reasonable limit like 12volts
    - selection of options from a drag and drop menu accessed from the screen, a USB port or Bluetooth port
    - an easy way to save settings for each of several drivers

    A factory default option would be available if you wanted to sell the vehicle or if an unfamiliar person were to drive the vehicle. Also, I would put the dashboard in front of the driver. I'm sure others will disagree with my display preferences, but this just reinforces the need for user programmability.

    You can do all that now with a phone or tablet, torque software and a OBDII cable.

    I assume that you mean that I can obtain the desired displays on the IPAD and not actually change the dashboard?

    You can either have a second display or you can remove the dash and put in a similar size display. You would have to use an Android or Apple based device to drive the display and run the app. Go to Torques web site there are many gauges.

    It is not too difficult to do this.

    The Video from Priidash originating from a Netbook screen along with other screens could be switched into the other video inputs such as the NAV Port or into the Backup Camera Port by manipulating the AV-Lan Bus.
    The NEC driver for that bus is supposedly hard to find but I think that an alternate can be found or discretecomponent circuit developed.

    Torque only works on Android. There are many other apps that work on both devices. On your phone go to the market place and search for OBDII.
