Ain't regen great?;) I usually have 14+ miles showing on a full charge. If I do some freeway driving it can go up to 15.5 following the next charge. The other day I had 15.1, drove 16.2 miles and had 1.4 EV remaining. The route had speed limits of 45 and 50, with slight hills, and the last mile was on a fwy where I kicked it up to 58 mph. In town I find the EV estimate fairly accurate, and can usually go pretty close to what is shown. I sometimes go a few days of EV only driving, charging each night, surface streets only. Again, there is certainly regen involved. Whether the computer takes that into consideration in tracking my driving history, I have no idea. Being in a warmer part of the country, and always garage-parked, I haven't experienced the low EV estimates others have described. Our winter temps get down into the 30's, but that hasn't had much effect for me.

:)With the temperature in the low sixties this evening, I experienced about a 15% increase in battery life during my 9.8 mile (all EV) commute home. I started off with 9.6 mile range after a full charge. My EV ratio is 59% and HV is 41%. Looking forward to continued warmer weather.

My Weekday drive for the last year has been pretty consistant.
During the Winter my low estimated EV was 9.4.
Now the last 2 weeks with the warmer weather, I'm up to 10.2.
    As Expected.

Just imagine the threads here if the factory default was 10 miles. Would anyone be writing about how their range went up?

That was all "in town", with little or no regen (pulse and glide).

I used to be able to pulse and glide easily with my two Gen ll's, but find it extremly hard to hit the sweet spot on the PiP. I'm either using EV or charging. So rather than glide under a light throttle, I am seeing regen charging any time I let up on the pedal or go down even a slight grade. This is in additon to easing up to stop signs and red signals and causing regen that way. If there was no regen, I wouldn't have gone the distance I did and have EV range left over after exceeding the original EV available range, right? Could that be what is happening in your car?
I just did it again this morning, this time in town with a max speed of around 40 mph. Started with 15.4, drove 12.4 miles and have 3.7 EV remaining. Slightly uphill going out, then slightly downhill on the return, with two stops where I powered down. I live on a hill, and am able to go about a half mile, including a stop sign, without using more than .1 EV, and usually none. Of course, I use more EV coming back up the hill, so everything evens out.

I think you misunderstand how the "EV Range" works. All that number represents is the car's best guesstimate how far you can go on the amount of charge you have left. This is based primarily on driving history. Most of my history with the car has been during colder months, so I expect to continually exceed the estimated EV range as the weather here in Oregon gets warmer and battery efficiency improves, as a result. In the Fall, when temperatures start declining, I will be constantly running out of power before I reach the estimated range number. That's why I suggested on the Future Telematics thread that Toyota make it possible to switch the EV Range number to a battery percentage instead.

The driving history period that the car remembers must be fairly short. If I do a few days of in-town EV only driving (or run out of EV and go HV for a short time) mine estimates usually 14+. But throw in a freeway trip and a long downhill run coming back into the valley where I live, and running several miles of EV at freeway speeds, I get as high as 15.5 EV range. It only lasts maybe three or four days of in town driving before it slowly drops down into the 14+ range. Thanks for your explanation.

Of course we would. We would all be posting our range for top bragging rights. Oh, we already do this:)

Mike (up to 13.4 miles a few days ago...but back down to 13.0 after a couple of days driving faster on freeway.)

Have you tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes? It should bring you back up to 13

And accomplish absolutely nothing apart from resetting ALL FE data.

Sure but the threads wouldn't be "why the hell does this car get such shitty range and my battery needs replacement after 1 year!!!!"

It fixes OP's problem. And it actually just erases the trip A and B as well as Ratio A and B. The monthly consumption record will not be lost, and your radio presets will not change.

how many times do we have to go over this, resetting a meter which is an estimate of your range accomplishes absolutely nothing other than making you lose data
also i'm not clear on how the radio doesn't lose your presets…does the radio have a battery of its own?

Test it out and tell me if your presets get lost.

And your answer is assuming that the PIP has a perfect battery that is immune of all problems. Eventually someone will have a problem. If you had a bad battery, the reset could help you to see that. And if its something that you are worried about, whether or not YOU say its rational, resetting can help you to calm your nerves.

how can resetting tell you if your battery is bad?

My estimated EV range did fall from the usual 13.3 miles to about 12.7 miles in December and January. It's been back to 13.3 - 13.5 miles so far this month.

I routinely (daily) get between 20-22 miles of actual EV use on that estimate. For example, there's a drop in elevation that I can take advantage of, so I EV from home to the freeway and then for the first 3 or so miles on the freeway. (That is, I EV until the range falls to 10.0 miles). That distance is about 6-7 miles. Then I switch to HV for the next 20 miles on the freeway. The last 5 miles of the trip are all EV. I reverse that on the way home. Sometimes I arrive home with a few tenths of a mile left, other times I tap into the 1 mile HV reserve. Either way, I always get more EV range than what the estimate actually says, even though the estimate is almost always in the range above.

It's starting to get warm here... finally. My estimate is going up as a result, just like it did last spring.

My one way commute to work & back home is 9.8 miles. For the last week or so, when I recharge, it's been showing 9.8 miles available? No more, no less.
