When I got in my car to drive home from work, I had 3 warning indicators: a ! inside a circle with parentheses around it (in yellow); a picture of an engine with the word 'engine' underneath; and a ! Inside a triangle in red. What do these mean? The manual only says "take vehicle to Toyota dealer".

The only way to really know is to have the OBDII codes pulled. These codes will tell u what the problem could be.

This can be done with a ScangaugeII, Torque or OBDII scanner. The dealer can also get them but they charge.

Hopefully when the codes are read they will indicate a problem still covered under warranty.

I'm at the dealership now. They charge $98 to just pull the codes. How expensive could this be?

    These indicators, right?

Have them look for an inverter coolant pump failure, it should be under warranty.

Yes, exactly these three indicators. Thanks for the information. I will post once they call with what they say is the problem.

Unfortunately, it is likely that the skid control ECU will need to be replaced.

But my brakes never failed. And I have had no difficulty whatsoever driving the car. The only thing that happened is that these warning indicators came on. The car drives fine.

I had the same indicators show up on my hybrid on Saturday. On Monday the hybrid battery was replaced under warranty. 2006 Prius 96000 miles.

My 2006 Prius has 128+K miles. How do I know if that is still under warranty?

You would have to know which state your car was registered in. (I could guess North Carolina, but I would be guessing)

The US hybrid warranty is 8 years/100,000 miles but several states have adopted the CARB hybrid warranty of 10 years/150,000. North Carolina is not one.

Many of those states have an effective date for the start or end of the warranty, WA starts covering with the CARB warranty for Model Year 2009, and AZ started in MY 2008, but repealed CARB after MY 2012

Can you clarify what 8 years/100,000 miles means? My car is not yet 8 years old, but it has more than 100,000 miles. Does that mean it's covered?

It is not under warranty at that odometer reading.

If the skid control ECU is the problem, it will likely be a four-digit repair at the dealer. An alternate approach is to have an independent install a used ECU from a salvage vehicle.
