    Hi there
I've 2007 prius and last week my dashboard went blank when I tried to start the car along with Middle display screen which displayed consumption (energy)

I researched on priuschat forums and everything that I'm reading basically says that issue is with combination meter.

I have seen two different threads here:
    Combination meter thread:
T-SB-0172-09 Combination Meter - Intermittent Display | PriusChat

    MFD Issues:
MFD issues on '04/'05 Prius | Page 18 | PriusChat

Next morning All the displays in driver console came back on (Speed, Gas left, etc ) however Consumption screen didn't come back on.

Audio/AC screen just works fine, CD Changer screen works fine. When I Click on Consumption tab, it shows blank.

Speed controls came back on but no luck on Consumption screen.

I realize that toyota has extended warrenty (link below) on this link.I talked to Phil (Prius mechanic who repairs combination meters for luscious) in berkeley and he mentioned that I should get in touch with dealership to see if they can fix it.

When I dropped off the car at dealership this morning, service guy basically told me that,
    1. He has not seen any of the combination meter issues here at the Sunnyvale dealership.
    2. Middle screen display with consumption screen is not part of the extended warranty.

Could you confirm if the behavior is caused by bad combination meter ?

I appreciate your help in this matter.

Take it in and indicate you have the issues that are in the TSB. The service people usually don't have a clue on what people talk about. Some are great but he majority are useless. If i'm not mistaken..the cluster feeds into the MFD. Bad cluster...bad reading with the consumption screen. I have NEVER switched out a 2007 screen due to issues. have done a lot of 2004 screens.

DON'T mention the MFD issues at the dealer. All your doing is confusing the already clueless service advisor. Get your cluster replaced and it "should" fix your MFD issues.

Yea I didn't mention MFD issues at all. I have told them that most issues that I've are with the Cluster and Combination meter. Thanks for your advice.

This is most definitely the CM. The reason consumption doesn't work properly when the CM is out, is because it needs the speed pulse generated by the CM to perform it's calculations. Print the CM campaign PDF, and I'd recommend a different dealer.

    Here's the campaign PDF.

Posting a bit of a Update here:

Took the car to dealer as advised by Peef and Mr. Lopez on Thursday.
Dealer looked at consumption meter and said issue is not related to combination meter.
I said that is fine, I still want you to replace the combination meter.
Dealer rejected to replace a part because issue wasn't persistent and it was sporadic.
I spoke with their Service Manager and told them, I need the part fixed as I have seen the issue happen more than once.
I called toyota head office and opened up a case # with them so they can call dealership and advise them to replace the parts.
Dealership finally agreed to replace Combination meter only (without touching MFD)
They called me on Friday to tell me that specific part is on backorder and will not be in for 3 weeks.
I said, can I at least come by and pick up the car while you guys wait on parts? They said, NO! mileage on car has to match on what was ordered on combination meter.
I asked for rental, They said no. We don't provide rental under extended warranty related to combination meter issue.
I called toyota office again and asked them to press these guys to get me a faster resolution.
Monday morning I got a call from Toyota Case Manager in LA who informed me that my part should be in dealership and they should be installing it.
I called dealership to verify that they had the part and they are indeed planning to install it today.
    I got confirmation Yes.
Picked up the car around 5pm today and guess What? New Part is in.
Combination meter also fixed issues related to my MFD.

lesson learned here: stay persistent, go as high up the food chain if you've to since issue is not caused by you.
It is clearly something that toyota admitted to. Don't give up and Don't listen to the service manager as he/she may not always know something.

last but not least, want to give props to Peef(Phil) and Ovni(Mr.Lopez) who have been nothing but HELPFUL with their valuable advise. Many thanks and Kudos to both of you.

    Phil,
I'm interested in this. Please let me know if this system will work with my 2007 prius.

No problem!! I'm glad everything worked out. Don't forget that I'm local and do computer diagnostics for free whether you do work with me or not.
