New to PriusChat, but i read posts all the time so i finally decided to "officially join". I just recently purchased my third prius, which is the plug in advanced model :). But I've always been a fan of all the technology the prius's have. I know that this question has been asked on the Gen III forum, but I was wondering if it is possible to add lka to the advanced plug in prius? It has all the pre collision features and the drcc, how much more would need to be added for lka? And is it even possible? I know it'll cost a few hundred dollars, anyone know if/how it could be done?

No idea if it is possible but I had it in my 2010. It's nice but not worth the extra effort and money, trust me.

As someone who is willing to pay $40k for a vehicle, I wouldn't mind spending a little more for something I want ;)

With so many incentives on the 2012 advanced models did you really spend $40k lol. Anyway, don't know if it is possible and don't think it is easy but good luck if you have it done. It's fun to use, far from a fun gimmick though having had it because of all the beeps. I don't think it's even something someone has done on here...

Edit: I see you are in California so they may not be discounting them out there like the east coast but here, people are getting 2012 advanced pips for crazy prices like $29k, maybe less, after incentives and credits.

Well the msrp on mine was $41k and I got it for $38.5k so to me that was a good deal lol. Plus $3500 back from Ca and $2500 tax credit, it didnt seem THAT horrible lol.

And I wonder if anyone does or has done this with the Lane Keep Assist?

Wait. I live in California and recently bought a PiP. My CA rebate was $1500. Yours was $3500? How?

Use the extra $2000 to install that LKA!

    Lane Keep Assist.

I tested this on 2013 Honda Accord EX-L. It is pretty cool, and may be useful.

It is useful if you drink and drive, no more weaving in the highway.

Lane Keep Assist requires that there be some way for the control system to actuate the steering. While the production PiP has the required hardware to control the throttle and the brake, they did not put in hardware to actuate the steering. Was the issue the weight, or the cost? Who knows...

Put me in the camp of thinking LKA is definitely not worth having. Had it and never used it because of the incessant beeping from going on and off, due to losing the lane markers, etc.; and because it made steering the car so tedious, due to having to use just enough pressure to satisfy it that you are awake, but not enough to override it. Just another reason to be glad I traded up, to a car without it!

So are you saying the only thing that would be needed for lka on the PiP would be
*1 Lane Recognition Camera Sensor Assembly

    *2 LKA Indicator Light

*3 Headlight Dimmer Switch Assembly and Turn Signal Switch

    *4 LKA Main Switch?

I did not see steering actuators anywhere in that parts list.

I guess if that's what is listed in the parts diagram. I'm not an engineer so maybe someone with that background can confirm it's simply finding those 4 parts and assembling them together.

Thanks for catching that. There's the Power Steering ECU that's involved in this.

So I need to buy the steering wheel that has the actuator in there too. Got it lol

Doesn't the prius already have a steering controller? (Think running into a curb or the tires hitting a groove in the road)

I always assumed Toyota just ued electric power stearing on Hybrid cars for things like LKA and the auto parallel park.

I had LKA on my gen III. It was gimmicky IMO. The times you really need it - night and/or rain, it was hit or miss. Too much beeping! Don't miss it. DRCC is way more fun!
