Yep - I'm doing something similar but ordered my camera from Amazon. Nikos ran his wire for the "back" wire all the way from the rear of the car but I will do some probing to see if I can find a wire that becomes "hot" in reverse somewhere in the console. When I find it, I will post it here.

That will not be enough. You also need to give some power to a cable (usually noted as 'back') when you put the car in reverse so that i will activate the rear view camera mode on the unit and will allow to receive picture from the rear view camera. In order to fit everything corretly in my case and do all the adjustments in order for the antennas to have good reseption (i have also fitted a dvb-t tv tuner with two active antennas) i must have removed the unit 10 times... Finally learned to do it with my eyes closed...

The camera i have fitted is the following Sony CCD Car Rear View Reverse Camera for Toyota Prius 2012 | eBay

That is indeed a good video showing the whole process. My note is that you do not need to remove all those plastic covers in the rear hatch since you can just push the cables and tuck them in nicely in the covers around the rear hatch. You certainly have to remove all the plastic covers on the hatch door, can't get away from that, but is straight forward. I found some dificulty in removing and re-installing the hatch panel where the camera is installed (the one with the badges and license plate lights). Other than that, everything straight forward but i must say that i already have some experience on similar modifications.

Thanks for sharing that video. I tried to locate a "hot" wire in the shifter connector for reverse, but my attempt got me a "Check hybrid system" warning! That freaked me out but after 3 starts, the message went away. I now think I will do like Nikos did and just route a blue wire from the actual backup light to the wire marked "back". I'm considering putting the GPS antenna in the hidden panel just forward of the upper sunglasses holder on that 3 inch square metal plate they supply. I'll let you know if that works.

I also got that message and freaked me out, but after a while it went away. Best to run the wire to the backup lights. Never had any problem with that. I had also positioned the GPS antenna at the windshield behind the rear view mirror right at the top, with a double sided tape and worked great untill i fitted the active antennas for the dvb-t tuner and that gave a lot of interfierence to the gps antenna and took a long time to lock in position. Moved the gps to the dashboard and everything works great. Let me go out and take a photo, it might help you.

Nikos, did you just use a double-stick tape to hold the GPS antenna to the dash without that 3inchx3inch piece of metal supplied? Thanks for the pictures :)

Yes, that is exactly what I used and It is still in place. You just need to find a good quality tape.

Extra connector 001.JPG Thanks Nikos...one more thing. I've been on the phone with the technical rep about a strange issue. It seems there's an extra connector (12 pins - 6 above / 6 below) from the OEM radio that there is no connector for on the new NAV unit. Did you encounter this too or am I missing a part from the factory? Their diagrams don't seem to show it either. Thanks!

If I remember correctly there was a missing connector on the car. I think it was for the oem Bluetooth system that is no longer needed. I just left the connector in the car. You can plug the rest of the connectors in the unit, plug the connectors for the rest of the parts that you removed and turn on the main switch without turning on the car (press only once or twice the switch without the brake pedal) and check that the new unit it's working correctly. Just don't forget to plug in all the connectors that you removed so that you do not get any error message from the car.

Thanks Nikos - the tech rep never called back so I took a chance and fired up the system. It seems to work fine but I need to go over all the options to be sure they are working properly. You've been a big help! Thanks again from afar!

WARNING TO ALL WHO ATTEMPT THIS - THERE SEEMS TO BE AN UNUSED OEM CONNECTOR TO THIS UNIT. IT HAS 12 PINS: 6 OVER/6 UNDER. IF I LEARN THERE HAS BEEN AN OMMISION, I WILL POST BACK HERE.

Just ordered the Myron and Davis unit from ebay with a $290 offer. I'm debating getting the camera as well. I didn't consider it but at $15 I probably will.

Helpful thread. I'm curious to hear how the recent purchasers of this NAV unit like the unit. I'll be sure to provide feedback once I get my unit installed.

    Some questions:
Will this head unit plug into a car with a factory JBL 7.1 system? Does the factory rear camera plug into this aftermarket head unit? What about the factory JBL amp under the passenger seat? Does this unit eliminate it or? You guys mention sound quality being good. Is it better than the factory JBL 7.1 system? I am asking because my factory system has the useless Entune and questionable audio quality which I haven't yet nailed down as being the head unit, external amp or just crappy speakers, or the whole system was a waste of my money.

    tnx,
    Mike

Greg, since everything work ok, and you're car had the oem Bluetooth system, like mine has, then the missing connector is for that. Everything in my car also works great and I also left a connector out.
Forums are for five and receive help, and I have received a lot of great information and help from priuschat!!! It's been my pleasure to be able to help. Hope everything works great in your car and the other members get helpful information.

Mike I can't give you any info unfortunately since my car did not have the Jbl unit note the oem camera, but I can tell you that the new unit has very good sound quality, better than what my prius mk2 with Jbl had.

Yes it was plug and play. Did not have to use any adapter. Do not have Jbl on my mk3.
