    I thought this was interesting.
    Over on the Cmax Energi foroum they estimate the charging efficiency of the Energi is 61%. To calculate MPGe for they Energi they multiple kWh by 1.4.

    Ah, I now see where the 19% loss estimate came from on the new Volt top 10 MPGe thread. Yes, that's about right for charging at 120v as indicated by the reference to measuring this with a kill-a-watt.

    ChargePoint tells me that a full daytime (70-85F typically) charge if my 2011 Volt at 208-240v is usually 11.5-12.0 kWh (12-15% overhead) with a few 12.28 and 12.78 kWh charges in July last year. I'm guessing the higher numbers were due to especially hot weather causing the TMS system to cool the battery.

    I'll try measuring full charging sessions overnight on OnStar and daytime on OnStar at work this week (yes, we finally have 208v stations now at work!).

    I'll report my results over on the Volt top 10 thread.

    I doubt that you can use the full or usable battery capacity and the Chargepoint or kill-a-watt result to measure charging efficiency.
    I did it by measuring several charges, only driving in EV, and using the car reported kwh used. I got 9-10% losses from L2 on Chargepoint over 140 miles...some uncertainty because the ICE did come on briefly at 124 miles and I did need one L1 charge.

    Well, it's a bit of a guess since my 2011 Volt doesn't display the kWh drawn from the battery like the 2012 and later cars do. But, I've got the same battery pack as the 2012 and we know from documentation and experience with the 2012 cars that the typical usable capacity is around 10.3 kWh if the weather is pleasant and you are driving efficiently. The Volt doesn't stays in EV mode until the usable capacity is depleted so there is no need to worry about that.

    That should put you on the #7 spot.

    Suggestion - instead of using HV gallons + .5 wouldn't it be much more accurate to use 10.6 (full tank) minus (the remaining tank miles divided by 50) ?

    on an HV read of 9 the formula is assuming 9.5 but it could be 9 or 9.99
    Changes the outcome by quite a bit...

    I understand that assumption of 50mpg could be anything from 45-55 but seems like that's a lot closer to accurate.
    My current (lifetime) read now shows HV = 10. Adding .5 means I'm on empty !
    Yet I have about 1.5 gallons left as evidenced by 2 gas bars and remaining tank miles of 70

    just a thought...

    It will now pretty much take 80 MPGe to get in the Top 10.

    GREAT advertisement for the PiP - thats my goal for tank #2
    Tank #1 just hit 4,000 miles but just 1.5 gallons left so days are numbered ...

    still think the calculation we're using is flawed - read says 10gallons used so adding .5 means I'm empty yet I see 70miles left....

    You reset the ratio screen at the same time as you filled up? Did you get a really full fill?
