    Hello guys

I have a Prius III with LED headlight, and the halogen high beam...

I hate the halogen "color" and "power" so I am thinking about an HID 35w or high power LED (lI cannot put the link...)
Please tell me what do you think about it ?

    Thanks a lot

    Neither will work properly.
HID takes too long to warm up to full brightness and LEDs simply don't have the output to function has high beams.

I would consider purchasing "hotter" halogen bulbs (100W). You can also get tinted bulbs to reduce the yellow output.

Ultimately, it depends on how frequently you use your high beams. If you use them a lot and get higher output halogens, you might also consider getting a ceramic or other high heat pigtail harness to protect your stock wiring from the added heat.

I use it very often because I live in mountains and I have no traffic lights

I have find some HID kit on Internet that start in less than 5 seconds, that's too long too ?

And why LED isn't good ?

HIDs aren't instant on. Their ignition and warm up are usually too slow to be effective for high beams, especially when oncoming traffic require quickly turning them off and on. Not to mention that frequent on/off use of HIDs will reduce their life expectancy.

While LED's may appear brighter, their lumen output is significantly lower than halogens (unless you spend a ton of money, and even then, I wouldn't trust it for high beams).

Currently, I wouldn't consider using LEDs for anything that requires high output. An LED conversion kit that you buy aftermarket won't be anywhere close to the caliber as the OEM Prius LED headlights.

You can certainly try to use either, but I would personally recommend against it.

Let me add one thing... Looking at your account, it would appear as though you have a 2009 Prius.
If that's accurate, then you're using an H4 bulb in a single parabolic bucket.

In that case, you can actually use HID as your high beams by way of a bi-xenon setup. Those bulbs have a shield and a mechanical device that shifts the bulb to produce a low and high beam when activated at the stalk.

If that's the case, I'd recommend using that anyway because an H4 low beam HID bulb is notorious for throwing glare everywhere and having little to no cutoff.

Yes, the 3rd generation debuted as model year 2009 in some countries. However, you should list your Prius as "Dynamic" (which I think you have) under package or people will think you have a Gen II.

Cool that all trims in France have LED headlights.

Someone recently installed H11 LED bulbs and the output appears decent, but until we do a side-by-side comparison with HIDs we don't know for sure. You'd need HB3 bulbs though.

I've been running HID HB3 high beam for about 2 years. I am still using the same ones I installed. More recent quality kits do fire up faster but they don't like a lot of on/off. Never the less I am happy with my choice. I don't live in a populous area and if there is a lot of traffic you can rarely run high beam any way. I'm guessing you want better high beam vision for the same reason. Avoiding large animals. In your case, deer, in mine, kangaroos?

Look for Phillips kits. I bought a Phillips licensed 55w kit from a local distributor here in Australia. here is the link. HB3/9005 55W Philips PL CANBUS HID Kit I think he is happy to send any where but I'm sure there must be distributors in Europe. Some cheap kits have Phillips licensed printed on them but are imitations so beware. Morimoto is also quality.
