I got the sound working, on the new unit I am having trouble with the USB Interface Kit, I plug in my ipod and it recognizes it and charges it but doesn't allow me to choose it from the screen. I am going over to the Toyota dealer tomorrow to see if it needs reset or something. Im curious, do you think I would be able to make the energy monitor screen work on that radio or doesn't that wiring exist.

I have the new 28 pin connector and pulled the wires from the 20 pin, does anyone know where the pins go into the new adapter?

Anybody have any luck with the microphone, that is the only part I still need. Is there an aftermarket choice?

I am interested in sending video to the Oem radio screen on a gen 3. Could the reverse camera signal be replaced with a DVD player and display on the screen like people have done on gen 2?

I know this thread is old... but wondering if more information is available as to what model radios were swapped out? I have 2011 Prius 3 that I am looking to put a new (better) radio in. There is a problem with the 2010/2011 radios that was supposedly fixed for the 2012 models. I have the JBL model with bluetooth and SAT on mine with the steering wheel controls. Has anyone put a 2012 model into this config? If so, what part number was the radio and were wiring changes needed?

    Thanks
    Ken

Hi Ken, What exactly are the problems with the 2010/2011 radios that was supposedly fixed for the 2012 models ?
I also just purchased a 2011 III with JBL non NAV radio and I have noticed a few things I dislike:
    1. hands free bluetooth cannot receive contacts from iPhone 5s
    2. no bluetooth streaming audio from iPhone 5s, must use 1/8th " jack
    3. the SAT radio preset banks are supposed to be 3 mine goes from 1 to AM radio each time you press button on radio. THe manual clearly states that there are supposed to be 3 banks of SAT radio station preset storage, I get only one. My 2010 Toyota Matrix had similar SAT radio feature and buttons and I am used to 3 banks.
    4. The high end of the front JBL speakers under the windshield is kind of bright and harshly brittle at times. I have been trying the eq to soften the treble but I think maybe the tweeters are worn from previous owner ?

So that's what makes me want a newer radio for this car like you, but after reading this thread my head is spinning since my idea that it would be an easy swap has been proven false :(

    # 3 solved ! Seems that after I called XM customer service to add the new JBL head to my existing account, I gained access to the other 2 missing preset banks. Whew I was going to take car in for service to check the radio.

The problem that I am having is poor reception - both with FM and SAT. The regional rep confirmed that this was fixed in the 2012 models. Of course, it meant a different wiring harness from the 2011 radio so can't just swap out radios.

I just wanted to first thank everyone that made this install so easy for me and doing all the hard work.

I got the 2012 radio installed, beige wire disabled, and using the Scion adapter steeringwheel controls work great. My only real question at this point is there anyway to enable the vehicle information mode on the radio? It's not deal breaker, just thought it would be cool if I could see the battery and energy use on my new radio too.

Looks like this mod increased demand for those 2012 radios as they are going for $350 on ebay now.

Does anyone know if there is ANy difference between the 2012 prius radio/navigation/voice control and the 2014 radio? After 3 months of owning a new 2014 prius, the radio mysteriously no longer worked after its 5,000 mile servicing at the dealer. They claim no fault, which seems awfully suspicious and unlikely. The dealer replaced the radio with a used 2012 radio which they say warranty allows. There is a difference though...now when we back up half the screen shows us what radio station we are listening to before going to full back up camera. Does anyone know if model number is exactly the same or are there any technological improvements between 2012 and 2014?

I know this post is old but this was a very interesting question, does anyone know if this is possible?

I have finally gotten around to installing a map light console w/ microphone only to find out that my Prius is not pre-wired for a mic. Does anyone have the wiring pin-out for the mic at the radio?

You beat me to it, I have the exact same question. I installed a 2012 Head Unit in my 2010, and Got the microphone installed in the Overhead console (bought one that had it in it already), but am at a loss as to what to do to connect it into the head unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

ArizonaRVExpert, I asked this question on JustAnswer.com (will cost $20 if I get a good answer), will let you know if I find out anything. I've used that site before and had some really good luck.

Below are my notes and some pics on how I wired the microphone. I wired a four conductor shielded cable from the newly procured amplified microphone connector in the overhead cluster (shown in picture) back to the radio.

Sorry for the delay in updating this thread , its been a while since I did this upgrade and my original notes were lost in my mess of a file cabinet :)

Yellow wire on mic harness to pin 6 of l149 (28 pin connector on radio)
Red wire on mic harness to pin 4 of l149 (28 pin connector on radio)
White wire on mic harness to pin 5 of l149 (28 pin connector on radio)
Black wire on mic harness to pin 19 of l149 (28 pin connector on radio
Shield to pin 18 of l149 (28 pin connector on radio)

That's awesome IMkenNY, thanks so much. That's EXACTLY what I was looking for. You rock! For this part:
"Shield to pin 18 of l149 (28 pin connector on radio)"is there a metal shield inside that black outer coating that serves as a ground, or was that coming from somewhere else. Your posts on this and the backup camera were awesome. I did the exact same thing and they are working beautifully.

I didn't see a shield connection on the short microphone lead.
The cable shield to pin 18 on the radio just shields the long cable run from interference as you run it across and down the windshield.

To close up a loose end from above in case anyone is wondering, I spoke to a Toyota tech and learned that it is *not* possible to show the vehicle info (consumption/battery info) on the Head Unit display.

And a second followup (probably obvious to others but it eluded me), when you pull the beige wire from the harness, you hook that to the sire coming off of the antenna adaptor, which in turn powers the amplified antenna (if you don't reception will be bad).
