I have a 7 mile commute to work on a state highway. I use P & G as much as possible. I've got that part down pretty good. I've read about warp stealth but I still don't understand it. When I speed up to my max speed of 55 mph what should I be doing? I can monitor RPMs and Engine Load with Engine Link. In a nutshell I don't seem to grasp the warp stealth mode. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank You

The term just means that you can have the ICE producing no power while at a speed above 42 mph. The engine will free wheel, as that is needed to keep MG1 from over revving. Otherwise it is just like electric only mode below 42 mph. It is the normal situation while on a somewhat downhill section at highway speeds, where the MFD arrows will indicate electric power only. You can feel a slight surge as the car passes 42 mph as the engine is spun up, and the arrows indicating ICE use will flash briefly, but then electric only mode will continue if you don't press further on the accelerator. Some of the forward energy of the car is used in free wheeling the ICE, so it is not necessarily as efficient as below 42 mph.

If you are going at a constant speed on the level, it is not what you want to use for best mpg.

Im not sure what your display looks like. but in a nutshell what it is. is a glide/coast with the car not using the battery or charging the bt. so you get the display to a point where nothing is lit up. that shows where power is going. In my Prius c the ability to do this is limited to 42 mph. I find it easiest to get up to 42 mph make sure it is on elec. then put the shift into neutral and that puts everything at rest and the car does coast better in neutral than left in gear and trying to do this ballence with the pedal. I have pulled behind big 18 wheeler at 60 mph and put it in neutral and the car does coast very well when the distance starts to widen too much put in gear and pull back up. I don't drive much on the freeway so I havent used this a lot at freeway speeds. but I do this arround town and the coast is better. you have to watch and make sure you are still on elec. if the engine starts and you are in neutral then it doesent charge the battery so that would ruin whatever mpg gains you get from the perfect coast.:)

If I understand correctly, you're saying that the warp stealth technique is not for flat stretches of highway.
Is CC the best option at that point?

    Jolly,

    Warp Stealth is explained here:

    http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1224

Also, read what hobbit wrote in post #4 - He is referring to what some folks call "super highway mode"

As nh7o stated, in warp stealth mode the MFD will show a yellow arrow from the battery to the drive wheels and the Prius will slowly decelerate on a flat surface.

I would suggest you try super highway mode. Basically you reach your target speed with the gas pedal, then ever so slightly lift off of the gas pedal "slightly". Observe the instant mpg readout - try to keep it around 60 to 65. If you go for 70 or higher, you then start to lose momentum and the car starts to slow down even more. In super highway mode, the car will slow down very slowly while still giving better mileage than if you were running with CC or a steady gas pedal. Also in super highway mode the ICE will still be running so you should see the orange and yellow arrows on the MFD.

    Remember YMMV. Hope this helps.

I learned how to do warp stealth by observing cruise control do it in certain circumstances on slight downhill portions of the highway. Best part about it is it doesn't drain the battery down at freeway speed in the way it does at around town speeds. :)

I'll try that. In the meantime, getting back to pulse & Glide (below 42mph). When accelerating back up to target, I've read that this should be done "briskly". Not sure what that means. Should I be watching rpm's, engine load or what? I've also read that the only arrow I should see during a pulse is the charge to the battery. I'm hooked on this hyper miling concept and want to strive for perfection!
