I paid 89+tax in Chicago il area. 46,xxx on the clock and had them capture some fluid in a water bottle container and it was pretty funky and dirty. Service manager was surprised at the condition as he had just told me an hour before it was 'lifetime fluid.' ;) I told him, 'I'm happy I had it changed.' It's a drain and fill and they looked at me like a fool for spending my money to change it.

I changed my transmission fluid on my 2011 with 34k. The used fluid looked brand new. Did you see them changing it? :)

I have changed a gen 2 with 67,000 and it looked black. I've seen the new stuff and mine was a dirty grey pink color. I asked the tech to save some fluid. It seems like a huge professional operation and at some point I have to trust that it was my fluid. I would have rather changed it myself and spent less money oh well.

$89's a very reasonable charge. The 4 qts/liters and 2 washers retail for around $40.

OTOH, if you have the garage and rudimentary equipment, it's an easy maintenance, not much different than an oil change. Last time around I did both together.

Just did mine. 160k. Pitch black. $9.45/qt. no questions from dealer. Picked up pump at HF. 5$ and change. Didnt use new washers, look just like flat washers vs crush type! Put in 3.5 qt.
Lifted in shop. Easier than changing oil! Less time too! Torqued to 29.
New fluid smelled like something You could drink, old fluid smelled really bad! No metal or signs of wear. Just old wore out fluid...I can rest easy now!
Going to monitor noise level,MPG, and interaction of ICE/transaxle!
