(The following applies to 2006 models with Nav)

While doing some experimenting with the MFD today, I noticed the following:

    1. If you press and hold the "Map/Voice" button for about 10 seconds, it will beep a 2nd time.

    2. Nothing changes on the display, but it's as though it is acknowledging some next step...

    3. Continuing to hold it down indefinitely produces no further beeps.

    4. No other buttons on the MFD will produce a 2nd beep when held down.

    5. Pressing the map button on the steering wheel behaves the same way, but the 2nd beep comes after 5 seconds instead of 10.

    6. Pressing BOTH map buttons (steering wheel and MDF) results in a beep at 5 seconds and another beep at 10 seconds.

    7. I tried pressing various other buttons such as ODO and flipping the headlights on and off a few times while holding the map button, but there was no apparent change in behavior of the lockout problem.

    Any suggestions?

Did you try changing destinations while at speed? It would be nice if one of those was the long-sought-after '06 Nav override...

so the Menu > Volume > tap top left, bottom left, top left, bottom left doesn't work on the '06?

Definitely not. This is significant enough to make me happy that I have an '05... ;)

lol... so are you a girl or guy? lol...

i think the dealer should just sell the little program modules for the car.. no problems that way. I did see a recent post where some guys 06 didn't have any lockout. lol.. that would be sweet.

    Folks ...

The very first line in my post said: "The following applies to 2006 models with Nav"

I don't mean to lecture, but in thread after thread on this topic, where 2006 owners are seriously trying to get some facts in order, someone comes in and immediately posts 2005 info or "you mean that doesn't work?" stuff or other useless commentary.

PLEASE, PLEASE help us keep these threads on-topic. Thank you.

Yes, I tried, nothing seemed any different. I would pull into my driveway, try a few combinations of items, then go around the block and see if anything was accessible.

Also, I tried a few combinations while at speed, but I didn't go through everything lest the neighbors think I was casing the joint...

Thanks for the report, Bob R. Looking forward to the day when the 06 Nav override is finally uncovered. :)

I'm hoping the ultimate solution for this will be found when someone is able to get the memory map for the NAV system's non-volatile memory. On another post, the menus to overwrite words in this memory was found. This would be the best and cleanest fix; overwrite the memory locations that activitate the "I agree" screen, along with disabling this bothersome greying out of certain NAV screens totally.. .and forever. With that memory map, who knows what interesting features of the NAV system could be turned on and off at will.
