If I could get the doc's, I can put together a few kits this winter. I have a couple back surgery's that have to be done this late summer into fall so I can't do anything until winter.

Isn't there a schematic posted in this thread? I have all the parts here to build my own but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I have no idea. I'm a newbie here. I read the first few posts then skipped to the last page lol. Figured if the guy is selling a kit, he wouldnt post how its made or how to build it yourself? But if there is, then I guess I can just search here :)

I was thinking of making one of these myself based on the instructions in post #6. Couple of questions for anyone that has done it:

    1. I'm thinking of using a DPDT switch with an LED so that I can have it light up when the feature is enabled. I'll run 12v through one pole and back to the LED. Any reason you can see that would not work?
    2. It looks like people were installing the button to the left of the steering wheel, but I see this button as belonging to the passenger so I'd like it accessible by the passenger. Seems like the easiest thing would be to drill a hole in the little cover to the left of the lighter so that both could reach it even though that is kind of a cumbersome spot. Also, there is less cable running and if I ever want to remove it I can just replace that cover. Anyone see why this would not work? Maybe there is not enough room behind that cover?

I'm not allowed to post links yet on this forum...The switch I'd get is ebay item number 300562722367 but the photo there is bad. You can see a better shot of it in bulk order item number 300962586939.

    thanks

Hmm. I just got word from the Prestigious shop that their $194 kit actually hooks into the 2012 Prius system so that the driver can hit vol-, vol-, vol+, vol+ to toggle the feature on and off. Even though it's the driver that doesn't bother me so much and I do like not modifying the system visually. Price is much higher than building but tempting...

Thanks for posting the switch actions! I was really curious since their website gives no description... Their product page quotes the price at $309 for any Prius, however (for example 2012 Prius v). Where'd you get the $194 quote?

I have their switch. It works as advertised, though sometimes I have to try again if I try to hit the buttons too fast. Nice thing about it is the ease of installation (if you don't mind taking your center console and dash apart), and the fact it is completely invisible.

I believe the $194 is without the video capabilities... The $309 includes the DVD/video enhancement that allows video playback... Someone correct me if I am wrong...

There is plenty of room behind the lighter bezel in my 2012 PiP. That is where I installed my switch. I had originally intended to install the switch onto one of the blank plates to the left of the steering wheel. But after I pulled out one of the blanks, I quickly realized I couldn't install the switch onto it. (I made my own speed lock override harness since cproaudio sold out all of his so I didn't have one of his pre-fabbed blank plates.) It was not a shallow "plate" that I could easily drill through. It was more like an inch and a half long "plug". Besides, all of my switches were too wide for the plate.

The lighter bezel was the next logical location. I have to say, it was not easy pulling out the lighter bezel. I tried the "thumb technique" with zero success. I tired inserting a small thin screwdriver to depress the clips, but I could tell I was starting to deform the plastic. Finally, I decided to pull out two of the side panels (where the driver's right leg would rest against) to allow my hand to get behind the lighter bezel to undo the clips.

Below a couple of pictures of the lighter bezel with the switch installed:

will this also solve the problem of being able to scroll through music from the usb? I started using the thumb drive, and the ability to scroll through the folders is greyed out while moving..

Does this work to override the VTR motion lock?

I would post a link, but I guess I'm too new.

EDIT: Also, would 20AWG be sufficient? What's the draw?

The V1 and the V1V should be back on Priuschat Shop shortly but limited supply. They'll probably be sold out in a month or so.

cproaudio - do you have instructions on how to build the V3V?

I built the one in using your directions (which works great!), but I want to do the DVD override too.
