How many smart key fobs can be programmed to a Prius?

I have Techstream software and just found the utility to program addtl fobs. I was thinking of buying one and having it as a spare...

The limit is 5 currently registered keyfobs. On a used vehicle, there may be lost keyfobs that are no longer available, but still included in the count. The solution is to delete the lost ones.

    Update: 5 for Gen2, I think Gen3 can have 7.

So I have done a little research and it looks like used FOBs cannot be programmed to a Prius? It has to be a brand new, never programmed FOB?

Does the fact that I have Techstream change that? I wont be doing the manual method (put the FOB in the ignition 4 times, open and close the door, etc etc)....

I would ask PC member "hooktern". I think he is the guru on this subject.

You need access to a "seed lookup" service in order to use Techstream to program used FOBs. Dealers and mechanics who have a "Security Professional" account have the proper service. Some locksmiths have a similar capability. There is also a company in Lithuania that sells seeds for something like $35. I don't recall the thread, but a search for "keyfob seed" should find it. Shouldn't take more than a week to read all the keyfob threads...

I just bought a used 08 standard Prius yesterday. It came with one keyfob with black symbol on back and FCC ID: M0ZB21TG; IC: 2584A-B21TG; TOKAI RIKA CO, LTD in battery compartment.
I am looking for used keyfob on ebay but may only say 08 compatible but don't list the FCC ID.
Will I be able to use a keyfob that doesn't have the same FCC ID?

I understand that I should erase any registered keyfobs that I don't have possession of.

I don't have a black button on my door handle so I don't think that I have SKS. (Car didn't come with a manual but I found it online at Toyota.) I ordered a Mangoose cable and techstream software and blank key via eBay last night. If I don't have an SKS system, will I still need to use a company like Sigmabit to get reset a passcode in order to program my car to accept the used keyfob?

I looked there before posting. If my car doesn't have SKS, does that chicken dance stuff still apply to me?

The first part of it does. Read the post carefully, it is all spelled out but feel free to ask me any questions. I'm here to help you if you need it. :)

Good input Ron. I never saw that thread before but by reading it, I may have to update the sticky.

    SteelerFan13,
Pls let me know if the steps in Ron's link above work for you and what functionality you achieve after?

I do note there is a couple of variations in the sequence when you read the entire string. I can't say if it works or not as I have not had the opportunity to try any of them.
