i just read the long thread about green sticker in CA. and looks like some people are still getting green stickers after 40,000th one. i just bought a PIP last saturday and was shocked to find out all 40k stickers were gone. to be honest, green sticker was my only reason for buying a PIP for my 70+ miles daily commute. green sticker would actually save me not only 30 min out of my 2.5 hour commute but also save a lot of Fasttrack cost on express lanes.

i am going to apply for it today (since i just got the license tag number) but i don't know if i'd get one.

The numbers go higher than 40k because of replacement stickers.

Also, if you ever find yourself on Jeopardy, the stickers actually started at #0. So if there were no replacements, the last sticker would've been #39999.

Sorry bud, but as of this time you are SOL. Stickers have officially hit 40k: "As of May 9, 2014, 40,000 "green" stickers have been issued." The numbers above 40k are due to reissues (stickers falling of/ being stolen/ etc), not due to them giving out 40k stickers.

However, you might have a tiny bit of light, as there is legislation to bump the number to 85k, but it hasn't been fully passed yet:

oh. i didn't know about the replacement stickers. my dealer told me that they don't carry green stickers anymore. but chevy dealers told me they do (for volts). this is going to really suck for me if i don't get the green sticker. sigh.

They had a program where they allowed dealerships to preorder stickers to help facilitate drivers being able to have them the day they bought them instead of having to wait a few weeks. Hence a few dealerships still have some cars with stickers on hand. However, as to applying to the DMV if you didn't buy one with the stickers already allocated for it, no luck. Sorry about your timing, but the PiP is still a great car!

It seems like it's got a pretty good chance of getting passed. Obviously current sticker owners are against it as carpool lanes already are almost clogged to the point of being regular lanes, but the auto industry is pushing it to help sell plug-in hybrids (Toyota's PiP, Ford's Energi line, BMW's i3 REx, Chevy's Volt).

i was thinking the same thing. especially with i3 rex, (plus toyota, honda, bmw, gm, ford) there will be push from car industry for sure. i almost bought an i3 but range anxiety got me to buy PIP. well, turns out i might have made a bad choice. i'd rather deal with range anxiety than jam packed traffic in norCal. is there an easy way to get update on this bill? i did sign up to follow the bill on the link that someone posted above.

According to the AB2013 bill history, the clean air stickers do not have a significant effect on HOV lane congestion:

Hopefully you got a great price on the PiP. The other CA buyer's remorse we heard was few regular Prius buyers not realizing how low cost PiP was after Fed+CA incentive$ ($4000 off). They would have got the PiP.

CA PHEV market is really dynamic right now with the green sticker expiration. You could contact Dianne Whitmire here to see if you have any options. Last I heard, she has some green sticker PiPs for sale I think mostly the Advanced PiPA. Had you gotten a green stickered PiP at the last minute, you would have paid a premium for that. So where you hopefully are is, you paid relatively low price for a PiP and if stickers come back you will be lucky, but you will have saved some money. If top proirity is green sticker, see if there is some way swing a fast deal for a PiPA on the lot with a sticker.

    thanks so much for info.

yes, another reason why i bought PIP was because there was a great promotion. I got it at a very good price.
perhaps the discount was due to green sticker maxing out? :(

i will contact dianne. thanks again. my best hope is for the bill to pass.
