USB port

    On my Prius v III...I thought I could use the port for charging, it appears not. Anyone - ideas on this? I will also check to see if it will play anything connected. Thanks.

    My USB port charges my Android cell phone or tablet.

    All USB-2 ports are required to offer 500mA at 5 volts +/- 10%. AFAIK, the Prius does. If they don't they can't officially be called USB.
    Whether a given device is able to charge on such a port is a separate question, and some can't.

    I just tried a couple of Android phones, no charge. I could not play any of the mp3's off them also; no option for USB under audio.I think we might have an ipod, if so I'll try that.

    Well that's odd. Mine charges my phone just fine. It also plays tunes just fine. I've not tried to see if it has enough oomph to charge my iPad, but I might try sometime soon.

    I am trying to locate the ipod, but I tried several phones and usb cords, nothing. I even tried a Sandisk stick with some mp3's; I think I saw that the Prius C can take memory sticks. I have a feeling that is does not work so I'll have to go back to the dealer.

    I couldn't get my USB port to charge an iPod Classic. I haven't tried charging my Galaxy S4 through it, instead using a PowerGen 12V adapter which works very well.

    On some Android phones, you have to select what to do when connected to an USB port: charge only, Media Device (MTP) access, Mass Storage access, etc.

    I've confirmed my Prius v Five USB port (on the center console, I don't know if there is another somewhere) charges both my iPhone 5 and my iPad Air. Previously, I've had older iPhones charge from it. I don't recall using it on an iPod.

    I have no Android devices, so I have no idea. Maybe it is a sign.

    a Prius v III comes wih display audio and navigation. I checked it will charge android and play MTP devices.
    if u upgraded the radio then it does not support MTP, it should however charge.

    I just came form the dealership, after 3 hrs.... they replaced the usb socket, and it didn't work. Further checking revealed that when it was assembled someone put the cable in the wrong port on the junction box behind the audio system. Works ok now.
