Just in the last month my 2005 Prius has been on a Triple Critical. #1 my LED brake light on drivers side went bad. Cost me $72 for part and about 40 minutes to swap out tail light...#2 my lower hatch glass (small piece under spoiler)cracked like a spider web. I taped over it with 4 inch packing tape to give some time to shop for new window installed.I got quotes from $849, 696, 689, 596 and $423 . Binswanger had the cheapest installed quote so I called to set up appointment. They told me the piece of glass was unavailable from there vendors...so they couldn't honor there quote.Toyota wanted $307 for the glass but they didn't have anyone to install it.I ended up getting glass from AutoBeYours and a glass installer to put in in. Out of pocket $290.#3 just 2 days later the Prius got Triangle of death CEL, ABS and a couple other icons. checked code with code reader P0A80 Hybrid Battery Failure.Cleared code and Prius went ready. during my test drive I noticed Battery dropped down to purple bar when in stop and go traffic but would recover to upper blue bars when I drove at 40 mph about 1 mile. still when idling would go back to purple bars. I'm now waiting for UPS to deliver my Prius Rebuilt battery. It's a gen2 battery with gen 3 cells in it. my final cost will be $1570 after my core refund. I'll post later about the new battery.

Sorry to hear about all your problems, hopefully this will be the end of it....

How do you verify the cells are from gen 3?

What company did you buy the battery from? Is it verifiable that the cells are from gen 3? I got 264k on mine, so I am preparing to buy one myself. Thanks.

Open the new battery case and compare the physical appearance of the modules to the original battery modules. I believe there are slight form factor differences.

I've read from jeffd, the gen3 cells are superior to gen2. You would think Toyota would stop production of gen2 cells in favor of gen 3. Seeing that both gens are compatible

I've been told that gen3 batteries have a lower resistance, therefore they produce more energy without generating as much heat...plus they are newer batteries from 2010-2013 battery packs versus gen2 batteries that could be from 2004-2009 battery packs...watching my friend Dave strip out the inside of the rear half of the interior, we muscled out the old battery and dragged the new one into place...hooked everything back up and reinstalled rear seat backs and all panels back in place , didn't even have any leftover hardware.I started up the Prius to take for a test drive. went 10 feet and mpg said 1.2mpg,another 150 feet I was at the stop sign 2.3mpg.drove around 20 miles and it was reading 52.3mpg. Drove back home about 15 miles and arrived home with 50.7mpg.. My initial feeling is that transplanting a gen2 pack with gen3 cells was a viable choice for me. I'm planing on taking my bride of 28 years on a roadtrip this weekend,Hope to have a very good break in of "New" battery pack...

Do you have a Scangauge? I would love to know the state of charge of the HV battery while it is being heavily used (i.e. climbing a hill or heavy AC usage). My state of charge would never go less than 40% (I think it's not suppose to go lower than this) when the car was newer. Now, however, it falls below the 40% when climbing a hill or the AC is being heavily used. I've seen it in the 20% many times. I just have to slow and let it charge itself up. To me, this is a sign that the HV battery is on its way out. Thanks again.

No I don't have scangauge, But yesterday while driving in the Blueridge Mtns my wife was driving and said that the car seems to have more power going up the mountains without pressing the car any harder. I figure that the gen3 cells provide a better power band , Even with driving up and down the mountain roads we got 50mpg in driving 140 miles. And my wife doesn't "play the game" she just drives like a regular "ice" car...
