This is my first post to a chat in my life.
We bought a 2001 prius with an extra "rebuilt" GenII battery.
Current codes are HV EC P3000 & P3140 and HV Battery p3006
I volt tested the "rebuilt" and it reads 7.90-7.92v across all 38 cells.
I have read up on the forums for the last four days learning as much as I can.
I am now more confused then when I started about the best method to use to:
    1. Test individual cells under load
(Go to dealer ship, use IPhone+OBDII, Purchase Androd+Torque, Resistors, other?)
    2. Charge/discharge
(Put in parallel, Individually C/D, buy special C/D??)
    3. Matching

I am very interested in doing the work myself for the understanding.
    Thank you for any suggestion

    Hi Rim,

This is my first post to this forum too, although I've been doing this stuff before CP/M was used on 8080's.

I'm not totally clear on your exact situation. I think you have a GenI pack that was rebuilt with GenII modules, but it's a spare and not the one in your vehicle. If that's true, the DTC's are from the pack in the car and not the "extra" pack. The orange service plug, on the left side from the trunk, can cause the P3140 if the handle isn't down all the way.

As far a working on the extra pack, do an internal resistance test on all the cells and see how they match. Since the no load voltages on all the cells are pretty close, just hook a 1C or more load on each module and see how much voltage drop you get after say 15 seconds. Any modules that are significantly more than the average are suspect.

Each battery module consists of six cells of ~1.2V each and there are 38. Their voltages are measured in 19 pairs of modules. Anytime you see one pair of modules off by 1.2V or more, then there is at least one failed cell. It will never recover.

When the module fails, it runs hot and that heat causes adjacent modules to fail.

This data suggests module 3 and 4 are marginal with at least one cell failing.

Which diagnostic software are you using to retrieve all these readings from the HV battery ?
Is techstream is a good diagnostic software for prius ?
