All fixed here. The TSB worked. So happy the noise is gone. My dealer didn't know about until I gave them the number.

What is so funny with mine is - I was on vacation for 12 days - so the car sat in the driveway all that time -
when I came back = no noise at all - it is slowly coming back. Before I left, when it was getting colder here,
the noise was getting the loudest I have ever heard.

Took my 2012 in to dealer yesterday AM for the 15K mile Toyotacare service. Asked them to check out the brake groan. Service advisor never heard of the problem. I happened to have a printed copy of the TSB. Said they would investigate. I told them this happens only in the morning when the air is damp. They called around 3PM to tell me they couldn't duplicate the problem. Duh! Told them to keep the car overnight so they could drive it when cold. They told me to come in to drive with tech. I arrived at dealership. Car was inside service bay, not outside like i told them to do. Plus, the weather has been unusually warm and dry for this time of year. (90 degrees in So. CA....in November!) Well, we drove the car.....no groan. After a long discussion, tech agreed to perform TSB for rear brakes.
Will report back on the results.

Well it's now been 4 days since the dealer did the brake fix for the dreaded groan. So far so good. Even in cold cloudy weather, I am groanless. Works for now. At least I got new rear brakes.

Those of you who have the groan, print out a copy of the TSB and take it to your dealer and get the work done!

Took my 2013 Prius v in today. Brake groan caused by rear calipars which are on backorder. In a rental provided by dealership so should be ok.

I have a 2012 Prius v Five. Same problem happened to me, but only when it was cold weather outside. So far, this winter has been mild. Hasn't happened since last year. I'm hoping the dealership stealthily applied the fix as part of normal routine service? Fingers crossed.

I believe you must ask for the fix - otherwise they are assuming your car is not making any noise.

well, the original fix was already on my car when I purchased it, and it did make the groaning noise.
It took Toyota about six months to come up with fix number 2.
The noise is gone - but the car will shake a lot every once in a while. It did that on the day we picked it up and has
done it about 6 more times. Don't know what is causing that. Usually if we slow down and or stop it goes away.
It seems to do this anywhere between 45 to 70 miles per hour. So now, we a in a little limbo.

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

According to someone experiencing a similar issue, it was addressed and noted in a Toyota Service Bulletin “T-SB-0081-13” (Brake Callipers).

At cooler ambient temperatures my idling 2016 Prius V starts howling or groaning as it coasts out the garage. The groaning ceases as I reach the drive.

A/V samples of the howling/groaning sound are available at the links below.

My initial and non-technical speculation was some moving part is not lubricated or warmed up or correctly aligned.
