I was watching Dr. Who when the power went out in the neighborhood at 11:40 PM.

I drove to a gas station in an area with power and 10.5 gallons filled up the 2003 Prius. I backed into the car port; set the parking brake to inhibit the daylight running lights; restarted the car; turned on the inverter and plugged in:
    • goose neck lamp for living room
    • extension cord to the gas furnace and hallway light at doorways to bedroom and bathroom
      • outside temperature, 38-40F (3-4C)
    • power strip for Mac and TV
      • charger for cell phone
      • T-Mobile hot-spot of Internet
It is an hour later and still no utility power but we have lights, heat, and communications. In the morning, I'll put a Kill-a-watt meter and start juggling the power.

At 1:00 AM, power came on for 5 minutes and then went out again for a minute. Since then, it has remained on and I'm normalizing the circuits. My first mod was to add an inverter. Now to turn off the car.

Are you hooked to the traction battery? If so, will this affect the car in anyway given how intelligent it is? Ex- car sees an unusual drop in the capacity of traction battery for no known reason.

no, hook up is to the 12 volt. traction battery will give you more power, and the car handles it fine, but it's more complicated and expensive.

Normally, yes but it was clear and calm:
Local news reported it as equipment failure.
