DIY radar-compatible front emblem ?

Here is the same center section after smoothing out the cuts.

 

Traced out the center section and cut out from 1/4 inch (.220) lexan from HD.

 

(Just realized I could upload multiple photos...)

1st photo - profile view of rounded edges of the lexan emblem

2nd - drilled the lexan 9/10 of the way through with pilot holes for #6 SS Sheet metal screws w washers. Here is what it looks like from the back side.

3rd- scuff sanded the entire surface with 2000 sand paper to help the primer bond.

4th - 2 coates of plain flat white plastic primer

5th - Installed on the grill.

6th - top view showing rounded corners and distance it sticks out from flush.

Tested on road trip today... 100% success! I was worried the the SS screws might effect the radar. Not at all. Radar performed the same as with no emblem at all. Cars were sensed going around curves and distance was jot effected.
I dont have the proper emblem. I Purchased the car with a standard emblem and radar was constantly malfunctioning until I removed the emblem completely.

Next? Planning on either painting on a simulated emblem? Or buying/ having made a sticker that copies the emblem. Not sure yet. I am currently enjoying the "stealth" look. Any thoughts, comments, questions welcomed.

So how do you know where to cut so your not cutting the radar that's n the emblem? You out of sell these things dude haha

Thanks! I had no choice as I had no emblem... haha!

The radar sensor sits about 4-6 inches behind the emblem. The emblem is just a cover that is made of "invisible" material as @kenmce quoted so well above.

 

Well damn.... this whole time I was thinking the radar was inside the emblem! When I first got my Prius and knew anything about the radar that was there(or behind it) I tried like hell to get the emblem off and couldnt pry it off for nothing. Do u have a template still incase anyone ever tried to get you to make them one for a fee? hint hint lol

That is the radar sensor circled in the picture. A small square box with mounting tabs on the sides.

I can still make more lexan disks for the emblem. The sheet of lexan was pretty big so I material remaining. I only had one emblem backing piece (the black part in the pictures) so I could not reproduce the entire thing. Unless I was to go to Toyota and purchase that part.

Update. I received the stickers that I had custom made to look like the factory emblem. I was able to get them with 3D effect and simulated reflection. Here are the pics. I will see what it looks like in the sunshine. Not bad for a sticker!
