best ride lowering springs?

Since they were the same, I had researched prices between them and found the Eibachs from Tire Rack to be the best deal back at that time. But if TRD's were the cheaper, then they'd be in the car instead.
$200 was right on... I see TRD's on Amazon around $190 plus shipping and Eibachs starting around $216.

 

80% of the work is on the front end. You need to remove numerous panels including the wiper blades to get access to the top of front struts. Then the 200+ft lbs of torque needed to loosen and tighten the front struts.

 

Wow, I certainly didn't realize how involved the install was. The other Gentleman stated he was a mechanic and it still took him 3 hrs so I guess this would be one to take to a local shop to get done then as I don't have any compressors or impact tools, or a lift for that matter…

Ill be calling around and getting quotes for install I guess, I won't be paying $600 from toyota though…. Has anyone ever ran into warranty issues resulting from this mod, and finally can front bumper still clear a normal sized parking block with the TRD/Eibach setup or do you have to be extra careful?

 

You should be fine. I also have the prius plus kit installed with the TRD Springs and I have no problems. Good luck.

 

Magnusson should protect you assuming install went properly.

Depending on size of block.. I don't try to clear any of them... and if you already scrap now and you never driven a lowered car before, I would be a bit concerned. The prius front valance is pretty low for a Toyota.. My BMW were lower but due to lack of overhang, they were less of an issue. BMW's have less overhang due to wheel placement for balance reasons.

 

I don't recall the exact threads but the Forum does have a couple detailed ones on replacing the springs and struts. I did the entire job using a couple of threads... found torque values and all. This forum has so much info, amazing how so many of the guys are so willing to share. My only issue was a crappy compressor so I had a mechanic swap the strut springs for me in his bench for $40 ;-)

 

You will have to have one of these to do it.. spring compressor or air compressor and impact gun. Also, if you haven't done it before, unload a spring, it might be a little tricky.

 

Does this count as ever having driven a lowered Prius?? She was hurtin on this ride but handled it fine.

 

I guess but it depends what you are after? if the squat look with your headlamps pointing into the sky.. sure.. not to mention it will ride terrible.

I prefer the even or slight rake look myself... which is opposite to this..

 

are TRD springs safe for long road trips? or What about on coilovers?

 

Safe? I'm still here after 20k miles.. but ya never know..

I overloaded the hell out of the prius that day and had to snap a couple pics... Who needs a pick up tk. Lol.

She was def slammed though.

Do a little search on TRD springs.. or read this short thread.. I have not heard many complaints about them and I am also giving thumbs up.

And I think you're asking how much do the TRD spring drop all around? sorry.. Don't recall but you can search. These are not adjustable like coilovers.

 

I commuted 1,000 miles per week for 6 months then drove across the country and had no ride issues at all with the 1.5"-ish drop. The car drove great. I love that it's not bouncy but stiff enough that it handles better and no longer nose-dives if I have to hit the brakes.

 

I agree... these are comfy springs and match the stock dampers well.
