One very good reason to carry the physical key with you.

You'd think; but experimenting around isn't what you want to do in a busy parking lot.

This is one of the reasons that I try to remember to lock my doors with the door sensor. If there are any issues with the door locks, etc. the car will beep at you and give you a warning message.

I don't think it matters if you use the inside lock-button, the door-sensor or the fob-button. Same result. In my case, the seat-belt buckle got caught in the door just right for it to hit the first latch. Electronically, the door is "open" but physically it's "closed."

    Yes it does.

I know I can lock my wife's key fob in her pocketbook in the car with the remote button but not the door sensor. When I try to lock it with the door sensor it will beep and tell me the Key is Detected.

I also know that one time the hatchback latch got caught on a blanket in the back and it was reported with the door sensor with a beep and a message saying a door was open.

Did you try double clicking the remote unlock button? That should unlock the other doors.

^ He's saying the car's been spoofed into thinking it's unlocked, due to being sorta half-locked.

Greg, I'll bet somewhere between the factory and you, some salesman was showing a customer the physical key in the fob, forgot to put it back in, test driver's kid got a hold of it, something like that. You should have a physical key in both fobs.

Anyway, solution: no more leaping outa the car, take your time. ;)

Does your keyless key fob have a hole at the end where the key is supposed to be like in the other one and like everyone else's? If not maybe it is a knockoff fob that was programmed to to the sks...

    Hey?
Carrying the fob...or a fob, WITH the physical key is a good idea.

So the OP's scenario contains more variables than my receiving a winning lottery ticket from a disgruntled leprechaun riding a unicorn.

    It still COULD happen.

I'm not arguing with the advice. And if you'll excuse me, I'm going to check my lottery ticket numbers....

Whatever the "best solution" may be, the only one I came up with at the time was to unlock the door with the physical key.

I'd like someone to try this on their car (I've got the Volt with me today).

Semi-close the front door, lock it, then hit the unlock button on the fob twice. That should give you three doors that you can open, even if for some reason the driver's door doesn't unlock.

So there's no way to hang that fob on a keyring?

If I pull the key out of the fob the key stays on the ring and the fob is untethered.

Maybe that changed in later years?

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but I carry one fob on a key-ring, and the other one is in an undisclosed location as a backup.

I don't know if my car is different but when I lock my car and it just latches on the first latch I just push the fob once to open the door.

You are right thou that if you try to use the touch area on the door Handle it does not work, use the key fob.

Your spell-checker is working, perhaps a little too well. Better get a handle on it.
