Ok searched around and can't get a good grip on my question. I have a 2006 prius that it's warnings lit up like a Christmas tree as I gunned it in a turn while accelerating. The wheels slipped a little and then all the warnings came. Hooked up he code reader and got the P0A80 bad hv battery. Oh and I had already ordered a 12v battery as I ran the diagnostic on here and could tell it was getting week. That battery comes in today. Anyway my question is I live in maryland and bought the car used in 2013. The car was bought in Maryland as well. I read on here that it may have a 150k warranty on the battery but the dealer didn't say anything and wants 4k to install.

Any help with warranty info much appreciated. Or if you see anything above and have further insight into the battery issue please pass along.

    Thanks a million...

    Mark

Jimbo is correct that MD did not become CARB until 2011 so a 2006 is "apparently" not covered. See my write-up on CARB Warranty Ins-and-Outs for details. What we are talking about here is Toyota internal policy rules about which Prii are dis-qualified from the CARB warranty, since all Prii in the USA are CA-certified, Toyota has policy rules to define coverage. I have raised the question if a 2006 in MD should be disqualified, since I don't think our 2006 warranty manual has the verbiage to say it is not qualified. But the reality is the MD dealers do not seem to be playing ball on even helping 50% which seems common in CA and CARB states. You want to get on the phone with Toyota and ask for custormer loyalty discount. I think we had one MD 2006 get 50% off, but our batting average in MD is stinky lately.

depending on how long you want to keep a 9 year old car, there are rebuilt/savage options.

PS- another current thread Miller Toyota in Manassas VA recently offered someone about $3200 on the batt job which is pretty good. Someone else said Miller has Costco discount, I don't know if that applies...

There is a rare possibility your batt cooling fan is the blame if it is plugged. You could buy a Toyota batt and have it installed if you have a good mechanic...others recently are using Greentec.

I am going to list below Maryland experiences with Toyota on battery replacement:

    This MD 2006 w/ 91000 miles got 50% off
So it's official, I need a new HV battery. Help with options, please... | PriusChat

I cannot find some posts, but a recent case an MD guy got the bad battery covered by buying a new Prius, so he gave the old Prius to his son or daughter.

Two recent MD folks went Greentec for refurbished...seems like Greentec hit the radar screen in DC/MD about 6 months ago.

Was all ready to do the napa battery route for around $1300. I then got word back from toyota corporate that they got my local toyota dealership to lower the battery cost a little bit and then they (toyota corp) would give me 2000 off the replacement. Needless to say I was more than happy. So all together the battery with tax and install was around 1000. Thank you all for telling everyone about toyota corporate.

    Fyi
Have two toyota's both maintained by toyota dealer. Note: at 125k miles I stopped taking prius to toyota for maint.

Nice outcome...we've tried to advise some other MD folks to try for Toyota assistance but it takes some time and perseverance, so some prefer to just go the third party route.

As I repeatedly say, if I lived in a CARB state, someone would have to explain to me why a CARB certified vehcile does not qualify for the warranty. I know I know Toyota has policies but to me the policy is questionable.

Vonecut I am trying to capture these outcomes below. In your case data I could use Car age. Miles and good Toyoyta contacts/dealers
HV Battery Goodwill Warranty Listing - Toyota Prius USA | PriusChat

EDIT: I now count six (6) Maryland Prii in this scenario on Prius Chat. Basically in the limbo between 8 and 10-yr warranty. Since MD did not join CARB until 2011, all out of CARB warranty on paper. Of the 6, 4 got goodwill coverage from Toyota...two cases decided to go with Greentec which opened recently in MD/DC metro area. In one case, which I cannot find the thread, the MD owner bought a new Prii which helped him get the batt replaced on the 2006 for free as a hand-me-down.

    Sure...
2006 135k. Spoke with Erica at corp toyota.

Jones toyota MD was the dealer. But they never told me to call toyota corporate. Got that on here. Jones was o.k got a loaner car for two days. Just make sure you keep on them with all of the finer details. They tried to use a non WS transaxle fluid once. Karen at Jones Toyota was nice to deal with.
