In November I couldn't pass up on the great deals Toyota and our local dealer was offering so we purchased a 2015 Prius 2. After spending a little time in the Prius I began to notice how poor the radio and speakers are. Surely I'm not the only Prius 2 owner that has wished for a better radio and speakers. What have the veterans done to improve the quality of their radio and speakers on their 2's?

There is a whole section in here for changing, upgrading or customizing your stereo. The people in here went through great details. When I am ready to do the change, I will have all the info needed from the good folks here in Prius Chat!!

Agreed that the stock system isn't so great. What makes it really from bad to worse is the terrible reception. I notice a big difference in sound quality between FM, SAT and CD's(worse to best in that order). I just replaced my squawkers in the dash last night and I can see why it's so bad. Paper cone and very low quality. See pics below. I replaced them with speakers from Crutchfield. Kicker 3.5"(Kicker 41DSC354)
    for $29.

These speakers are wired in parallel with the door speakers so you can either make a jumper or reuse the connector like I did. Just de-solder and pry them off the back(just the blue part).

The sounds is very different mainly due to a frequency being produced. I actually need to turn the treble to flat or 0 now. Prior to this, it was up at +3-5 depending on music. Even then, there's no comparison as it's just a freq range that the stock speakers can't produce. So for $30 and labor, def. worth it. I will be changing the door speakers front and rear next.

Use the factory bass blocker and connector as adapter.
