Then you do not have navigation. The MAP button was added because it's part of the rocker button with INFO on it. That one gets you to the Energy Monitor or Consumption Screen, right? You probably have bluetooth handsfree.

Navigation-equipped Gen 2s have 7 buttons IIRC. (DISPLAY, INFO, CLIMATE, AUDIO on the left and MENU, DEST, MAP/VOICE on the right)

Why are you clogging a gen2 thread with nonsense?
Push the display button and get controls for the display.

    Okokok.... Let's clear things up:

Gen 4 nav: (2004-2005 Prius). Note that the 2006-2009 bezel will look the same with nav. The difference is the much higher resolution 7" LCD on the 2006-2009 models with nav. See the climate control screens below to see the difference in resolution.

I have an 07 with nav. +1 on the garmin being better overall. That being said I can still use my '07. I rarely Need it, but just Thursday I found a discrepancy of current conditions vs 9 yr old data, the DOT had closed a cloverleaf ramp... And I was in the right hand lane when I found it torn up. Had to find a place to pull a u-turn, not fun

Apps were introduced with Entune (later Ensuite App Suite) in 2012 on the Prius. That is also the same year that Toyota started offering more than one version of navigation - 6.1" Display Audio system from Harman Kardon and the proprietary 7" high resolution LCD screen from in-house manufacturer Denso. The Denso unit is what most Toyota owners that had navigation in the 2000s were familiar with. The HK unit on the 6.1" model is a different interface. The HK units were flash-based and quick to respond but required a USB tool from the dealer to update the maps. They also had some more modern features than the Denso units (like complete address voice input for destination compared to the Denso unit where you have to say the State, then City, then Street then House No.). The Denso units changed from DVD to hard drive. These required a USB tool from the dealer to update the maps.

Then to make it even more confusing, starting in 2014 (or thereabouts depending on Toyota model. The 2014 Corolla was the first model to receive the new units), Toyota introduced the 8th generation units that ranged from 6.1" to 8" and started calling all their head units "Entune Audio". See attached PDF. These units are all flash-based IIRC. They're all updated via an SD card. They're also back to using the Denso interface with some changes.

The latest units have speed limit info (US only), My Route (ability to check traffic from up to 5 saved routes), predictive traffc, and so forth.

Gen 9 has just been released for the 2016 model year. I don't know what's new yet.

Also, I made an error in the post with the screens so I'll clarify here (and I've fixed the post too). This is for the Liftback only.

    2004-2005: Gen 4
    2006-2009: Gen 5
    2010-2011: Gen 6
    2012-2015: Gen 7
    2016-? : Gen 8 or Gen 9. We don't know yet.

    Prius v & c
    2012-2014: Gen 7
    2015-now: Gen 8

Thanks for the replies- I believe you guys have nailed this-- certain prius around 06 came with the map button on the wheel but do not have nav- no nav button by the display means no nav. and no nav dvd unit under the drivers seat means no nav. Thanks!
