The "white" plastic in the cup holder area can be changed to "black" by replacing the plastic insert.
No spare tire for the Eco model. Here in Oregon you can easily be out of cell phone coverage and a tow truck if you have a flat that can't be fixed.....
Are you sure? Since he was writing about something that is present on his vehicle, I assumed he was talking about the sliding tray on top of the console bin under the center armrest. Could we get some clarification on this? Perhaps a picture, kithmo?
Not that I'm aware of. The only fix I've seen so far is the addition of the glossy black plastic applique, which covers most of the white surface of the center console (two pieces, one for the lower console and one for the front of the armrest/console) and the white shifter-surround area of the lower dashboard. The remaining white areas on the center console (cutouts for the cupholders and the Qi charger) look like accents, nicely complementing the steering wheel. I've seen it in several cars on the lot, and it works pretty well, galling as it is to pay for. I'm still holding out hope for better 3rd party solutions. But to the original point, the above refers to a set of overlay appliques, not a replacement of the console itself.
Someone bit the bullet and got matte black replacement parts, stock on level 2? Maybe we should start a poll: those who despise the white, vs those who are just in denial, lol.
I don't like it when I look at it, but am reluctant to make a modification for now (I'm hoping to see more options later this year, and don't want to spend a couple c-notes today on something I might regret when I see something better). Once you're seated, it's not really in the visual field for those up front, so denial may be a viable strategy . For folks in back, they're likely occasional riders for whom it will just be part of the overall Prius weirdness.
I wonder how much the replacement parts cost, in comparison to the stick-on thing. It looked really good, seamless, all the white gone, including the steering wheel bits. A bit more involved to do, though. Yeah, in your shoes I wouldn't spring for the stick-on, it doesn't do the steering wheel? And it's fairly obvious, only half-covering the cup area for example.
I'm probably in denial, it doesn't bother me enough to want to rip it out, but SWMBO hates it, so I will probably have to get it changed at some point in the future to shut her up. My dealer is looking into hydro dipping. The sales manager has actually ordered a spare set of white bits and is sending them off to be dipped and lacquered to give a piano black appearance. Apparently the lacquer will stand up to use as a console tray ( I don't believe it will myself). I'll keep you posted when I find out more.
I don't follow - I haven't seen an all-black steering wheel anywhere. While the Two does give us a flat black center console and bottom center-spoke "shovel" on the wheel, the white "ears" on the steering wheel and the white shifter surround remain, making for an even odder look. The shifter surround is fixed with its own applique, and I suppose at that point the remaining small white accents on the steering wheel aren't all that peculiar. I don't imagine most folks care a lot (especially the iPhone crowd), but swapping out that whole console would also lose the Qi charger. As for the applique, I really thought it looked pretty good in person. There's no change to the steering wheel (and I wouldn't want to stick anything on a steering wheel anyway), so the "accents" in the appliqued center console (note that the shifter area goes completely black) just seem to be carrying on the theme. And that's really how it looks - accented, not half-covered.
Guys, I've shared my Eco 2 with the black applique here on another thread: Got rid of my Prius 'bathroom fixtures' | PriusChat Here's the main pic you're inquiring about: IMG_0964 by Jim in NC posted Apr 10, 2016 at 6:18 PM The white 'ears' don't look too bad when all the other bits are covered up.
Thanks for the visual Jim. Just to be clear to any newcomers, in this case the applique only covers the formerly white shifter area below the center stack. On Twos, the center console and bottom steering wheel spoke are already flat black.
This is in response to Frankkk's statement on a lack of a change drawer, not on kithmo's suggestion on the removable tray in the centre console. Kithmo suggested using the tray as a coin drawer. I was just drawing kithmo's attention to the fact that other Toyotas in North America have a change/coin drawer to the left of the steering wheel.
There's something askew with their strategy if buyers flock to a base model to avoid an upscale feature. I might report myself, for sniping, guess I better knock it off. Sorry.
