You may have a failed clock-spring cable. This connects the CC control stalk to the electronics in the ECU. The cable allows the steering wheel to turn and keep the controls connected.

Try this - when pressing the button to turn on CC, also push on the stalk and move it forward. This combination of actions sometimes will work to turn the CC on. I had to put up with this for nearly a year on the 2010 before I sold it.

I didn't read the entire thread.

    FWIW
Some other threads have mentioned a stop light switch as being an issue with cruise.
Plus, cruise has a minimum speed to set which I believe it is 25 mph and if you go below that speed it shuts off.

I am new to Toyota cruise control application and IMO it is not the best.

    Good luck.

Ok, button is no good on the end of the cruise control stalk. Quoting me 370 bucks to fix. That seems excessive

Okkk, typically they are not trying to rip me off at this dealership but I want to find out if this is reasonable cost for replacing a button.

Ebay would be a good place to get a part. If it's the same part in 2008, I have a spare to sell

I have 21, for 2008. You're certain it's not the brake lamp switch right? The dealer diagnosed for you?

They tested it at dealer, said all the other buttons worked except for the activate button.

ok. I've read about brake lamp switch failures but the cruise control switch has never been mentioned before. I guess you're the first to have this failure
