Prius is an Atkinson style engine. Corolla is an Otto style engine. Different:). Many threads here and Google will help describe the differences. The gen 3 Prius has an egr system, which aides in the complexity.

OK, one more question. I remember this has to do with cold start. and when I started the car after the oil change, it was about 62-64 F. Is this consider to be cold that cause the issue?

The knock at startup has to do with moisture or condensation collecting then getting into the combustion chamber. So it is not just temperature based but also humidity and dew point based;).

if you don't stop your engine while it is warming up, you won't have the problem again. for more detail, seek the many threads here describing the problem.

When you changed the Transaxle fluid did you make sure the car was level and filled till it leaked out of the fill port?

Did you overfill the motor oil?

Yes. If you shut off the car while it's still warming up, it "complains" the next time you turn it on. It must be a software bug.

On most every vehicle I've had, I find there's an odd noise when you first start the engine after an oil drain and fill. I think it's because there's "air" in the system, and for a few seconds, it's pumping the new oil up into the top of the motor. Perfectly normal. It goes away because the pressure in the system when the motor stops keeps the supply path from draining back into the pan.

This is different: If you start a Prius when it's cold and then switch it off right away, if the engine runs only a few seconds, then the next time you start it, even if it's the next day, the engine will shudder and shake a lot.

Thanks. I never know that. I have never had this happen to my second generation Prius.
