If your burning oil ! Yes ! If your not! Change oil offen use good quality top tier gas! No issue with performance of engine then NO!

Possible "rough engine transition"? Meaning? As its accelerated from stop? Or as battery voltage is burned off from 6 to 2 bars? I feel the drop! I can tell when it happens.
    No drop in MPG.s
But then again, really want to give the prius a really good work over. I think its deserving!

On my 2010 Prius II, I noticed it on startup and at lower speeds (say under 25). The rough transition would cause the car to rock more than I would say was normal. I did the egr system, intake. Seemed to help. Recently, I have added 2 different BG Products to the Prius: 44K to the gas and EPR prior to the last oil change.

I have a round trip of 80 miles a day going 70-75 mph averaging 44-46 mpg. Have a slow oil drink of a quart every 6500 miles. Since doing the BG Products additives, I have seen an increase in mpg(actually got 49 mpg on the last tank) in the same driving conditions. Too soon to tell on the oil consumption, but I continue to monitor;).

Try first taking off the EGR connection pipe, check it's degree of clogging, it's the "canary in the coal mine".

An end-to-end cleaning of the EGR as Ray has done is a really involved undertaking: the EGR connection pipe connects to the EGR valve proper, which connects to the "cooler", which is the final link, bolting to the exhaust manifold. That last component is the toughest to access and remove, has coolant lines connected, and can be near-hopeless to clean, easier to just replace.

    Then there's the intake manifold...

Well I guess that rules out the EGR service, at least for now...maybe after I grab that second prius so 2010 can have some down time.

Techron is good stuff proven to work! Look like you will easily get 250,000 plus miles from your Prius!
Have the spark plugs pulled and inspected! This will. Clearly show which cylinder is using oil then a compression test wet\dry and then a valve leak down test this will give you data on the condition of your engine.

Knock on some wood!!!!!!---- but I just hit 106k on my 2011 and all i have done is change the oil every 10k miles and add a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment every other month or so! This has been one good car! Just got her paid off toooooooo! And still runs like the day I bought her with 11 miles on her! wooooo-hooooooo! Toyota is the bomb.com, IMO!

Run a can/bottle of B-12 Chemtool or Seafoam in your tank every now and then. It cleans the entire fuel system, is perfectly safe, and it will clean ANYTHING involving the fuel system (if it gets sprayed there). Some have cleaned EGR systems by flushing or soaking the EGR valve in the chemical.
