Having driven 1300 miles for my Prime Advance so far since 11/11, it is problemless for me in terms of the screen. I did notice that USB direct connection with my iPhone 6s would disconnect and reconnect repeatedly. I think it might be the fact that I am using cheap 3rd party cable from eBay. I just got an Anker PowerLine+ lightning cable and it seems to work well. Anker PowerLine+ cables are certified by Apple.

So looks like we figured it out, maybe.

The connection and reconnection seems to be purely a cable issue.

I ended up taking it in and they couldn't reproduce any of the issues.

I bought a new apple branded cable and plugged it in and things seem to work well so far.

I suspect the disconnect and reconnect may have been causing things overall on the Prius Prime software to go on the fritz and resolving this issue resolved the other issues.

Another 200 miles on board without further issues.

Another quirk I learned about Entune in this car is that you cannot have your phone plugged in to the USB port and accessing Bluetooth at the same time.

I had some issues with entune connecting properly even with it not connected to USB port. Tried with phone support for quite a while.

I ended up trying to remove entune and reinstalling it.

    SUCCESS!

Now all my entune apps work perfect

I also had the same issue where my iPhone would keep charging, stop charging, charging, etc when plugged into the USB port in my Advanced. I was using a stock Apple lightning cable. The same cable charged my iPhone without any problems when I used it in conjunction with my old car charger. Though, when I switched to a newer/less-worn stock Apple lightning cable, I haven't had any problems plugging it into my car's USB port.

I guess I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who encountered this issue, but it is disappointing that the port is so finicky.

The car just seems to be VERY sensitive to disconnect and reconnects.

A good fresh cable is a low cost for all the nice features like my audio books for those long commutes :)

It's under the settings once you get your phone hooked up to Bluetooth.
I wanna say it's under the actual phone settings setup.

Will show up as messages and it'll read them to you and show them to you on the big screen. If you're driving it'll just read it and say you gotta stop before you can view.

I am not sure how to make them work. When I first had my car and connected my phone the messages showed up on the screen and I could even have the car read them back to me.
Since the issues I have had this is one of the features I have lost.

I had my prime advance for about 28 days & 2,500 miles. I've had my touch screen lock up on me twice. Once when I just exited the automatic car wash, nothing on the screen worked. The second time, I was driving playing around with the setting, I'd received a few calls, but on the last call it would not go via the Bluetooth, the push buttons on the steering wheel & the touch screen did not work. Stopping the car, turn it off then back on cleared the frozen buttons & Bluetooth issue. I also had a problem with the voice recognization during navigation would reply back with something that I never said,

A quick perusal here and it seems most of the software/connectivity problems are with the Advanced model. I know there are some Advanced owners who have stated that they are not having issues, but it seems everyone who is having an issue with the screen or phone is driving the Advanced. Perhaps they over-promised when it came to the upgraded apps in the high end version.

Most of the early sales are top of the line - not sure if that would be a safe assumption. I will be holding off until 2018 for mine - let the bugs get worked out.

After new cord for my iPhone and now up to 1600 miles I'm without any repeat issues with the software.

To resolve the concern about plugging phone into USB at same time as using bluetooth to use the apps I just got a cigarette lighter power adapter and it has worked out well.

Really been enjoying the apps like yelp and voice navigation as my other cars didn't have these fancy features. (05 Infiniti g35, 06 Nissan Murano, 2002 BMW M Roadster)

I agree with others on holding off for a year but I wouldn't hold off due to the software but rather to see if they'll be able to increase the battery capacity.

If it wasn't for a nice work perk helping pay for the car and be driving my budget around that I'd have sprung extra for something full electric.

Maybe next time the Prime will do 50+ miles on a charge and have lvl3 charging. That'd truly make it great.

Otherwise my gremlins seem to be resolved with a simple Apple cable and a car charger.

I may have found a work around for the iphone/bluetooth not working at the same time issue. At first I was not able to play audio from my iphone while the bluetooth connection was active- If I switched the source to my iPhone, the audio played from the speaker of my phone. Weird...
    Try these steps:
    1. Removing the bluetooth connection to the phone from the Prime's phone menu and "forgot" the connection from the iPhone.
    2. Turn off the car and attach the USB cable to your phone.
    3. Turn on the car and shuffle through "source" until you choose iPhone.
    4. While music is playing, navigate to the phone menu in your Prime and attempt to pair bluetooth.
You should now be able to do both at the same time.

I disabled the Bluetooth Audio connection and left the phone Bluetooth connected. Go to Bluetooth, highlight and select the phone connection listing. Now it will display both connections and allow you to scroll to and disable either connection.

I had plugged in the usb to lightning cable for the first time today, and phone was dinging with the connect/disconnect sound several times then the nav display went black. Definiely a weird thing to hear the cheerful bootup sound while driving.

Just happened to have a new cable that is mfi Apple approved, and that eliminated problem. Music played fined thru ipod button, and calls come in via bluetooth.

Fwiw, the iPhone 7 and 7plus use bluetooth version 4.2.

I bought a 2017 Prius Prime Advanced and had the same exact problem. tablet display restarting while driving, and USB port power on and off intermittently. I have about 400 miles. Taking car back to dealer on Tuesday.

Try replacing the cable for your USB first and try not to plug it into USB port on the car but rather use an alternate USB cigarette lighter adapter.

    Should resolve your issues.

There is nothing wrong with USB...you are trying to feed power hungry device that requires 2+ amps......
Car USB is trickle charger .....My LG V20 will keep losing power with GPS app running....
Why because my phone need 2 amps usb charger
