    all,
just finished with a transaxle replacement, was able to locate a replacement that had only 68k miles on it.
with things nearly finished I thought that I'd test car out before replacing windshield wiper pan and now I get P0ADD and B2775 codes.
the really strange thing is that now the ICE will not start up. put on the mini-vci and one strange issue is that I do not see any change in the position in the throttle pedal, it is always at a constant level and pressing to the floor while watching diagnostic tool shows no change.
since the car sat for a while I replaced the 12v battery with new one and same issues.
the EV battery is pretty low and I would like to charge it up - have not found any way to force the ICE to start.
anyone have any suggestions? with all the work going into replacing the transaxle I'd sure love to get this vehicle running.

Try to reconnect the orange interlock switch on the hv battery. You need to lock it in place by pushing it down to lock.

Flip the switch lever up and then push downward to lock

Press the start button a couple times to start

if the battery is too low to start the engine, wouldn't you get a code? did you push the power button a couple times?
the only way to charge the battery is the dealer, or someone with a prolong unit i think.

kinda interesting, I pulled the interlock and relocked it (a couple of times) and I keep getting the P0ADD code.
I thought that it would have changed with the interlock both out and in, but it seemed to make no difference. is'nt this code to signify that the HV battery is either connected or disconnected?

Take the battery cover off and with Dvm measure Dc on battery side of Contactor. Sounds like a dead hybrid battery

P0ADD is not a valid Prius DTC. If you meant to write P0A0D, that is usually caused by the traction battery interlock switch not being correctly installed. So, either you did not correctly lock the switch, or you did not properly install the inverter cover (as an interlock switch is also present there), or there is an associated wiring harness fault.

A lurker here. I have a 2007 sitting in my driveway that I have not been able to start since replacing a module and charging the traction battery and as I wait for my MVCI cable to arrive I've been reading every post. You guys just saved me by mentioning the interlock has to be pushed down. The car has literally been sitting for nearly two weeks while I went over everything multiple times until you reminded me that I have to push down! Thanks! The car is idling in the driveway about to go on it's first drive once I get the ice off it. dlenox should put his location in his profile. He might find someone that can charge that battery if it is really needed.

    patrick,
I've seen mention of how the interlock switch locks in a downward motion, mine locks in an upward motion. could be that last year I replaced the HV battery and maybe it was slightly different.
will double check the interlock on the inverter, could have swarn that it clicked when I put the cover back on, but will check again.
    thanks

You first flip UP and then slide the switch DOWN to lock.

the car had been sitting for the last 6months while I worked into my schedule the transaxle replacement, so that was probably why I forgot how to correctly put on HV interlock key...
pretty frustrated here. I found that the interlock under the inverter cover had a bent pin. straightened it out and rechecked all connections inside and out of the inverter.
    would not start.
with a bit of frustration I took a small hammer and tapped the inverter cover right over the lock - SOB it started! even though it was good to hear the engine running, was a bit rough at first, but smoothed out.
well that was about for only 30 seconds when the engine warmed up then stopped. has not started since... no matter what still get the P0A0D code.
I even took the inverter interlock connected it to the cover, then put the cover back on. no deal - quitting for the day.

Measure the resistance across the inverter interlock, as if the cover was installed. If you find the resistance is any significant value above zero, you need to replace that interlock switch, as it provides a control signal to the hybrid vehicle ECU to disable operation when the cover is removed.

Alternatively you can short out the interlock as a temporary measure, to ensure no other issues exist. Obviously under those circumstances, while the interlock cover is removed and the Prius is IG-ON or READY, you run the risk of shock hazard leading to your early demise.

Do not allow your frustration to result in a stupid act. You will be exposed to high voltage and high current if you bypass the safety interlocks based upon exposed inverter circuitry, so think very carefully before doing so.

    patrick,

trying to be extremely careful to always try to remove the HV interlock prior to doing any work in the front of the engine compartment and replace when done (this time to press DOWN the lock after flipping up the lever...)

I noticed that one side of the inverter interlock goes to chassis ground using a pitiful little wire. are you saying that that tiny wire caries upwards of 100 amps?

and that I should measure the resistance between the black and red wires of the interlock? want to be sure that I understand you correctly and that this is removeable connector that you are referring to as the interlock switch?

as always - your input to this site is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for pointing out the connection to body ground. I edited my post #17 above.

The inverter interlock is not in the positive traction battery cabling. Instead, it provides a ground to the hybrid vehicle ECU terminal ILK (H15) when the cover is installed. So the interlock does not carry high voltage. However if the interlock is not working properly, the system will not function.

    patrick,
not a problem pointing out wiring issue, just wanted to make minor correction to your post, thanks for all the help that you provide to the rest of us. wish you were closer, but with a little luck and lots of info hoping that this will end up getting my Prius back on the road.
