Will have to wait for a while; wife requested I not do any experiments while we have guests here and need both cars operational. Thanks and will let you know later what happens.

Good point RobH, I should have mentioned I had already completed that part in my post.

It just looks like a piece of plastic and is trapezoid in shape, attached to the inside of one of the halves of the cover.

The antitheft light went out by itself overnight. I went out and tried it again, and got identical results. In Part A, step 3, is the antitheft light supposed to come on continuously, or is it just supposed to blink. If it is supposed to be on constantly, mine does not, it just blinks at this stage. And since the new keyfob hasn't been introduced to the procedure yet, it must mean the problem is either in my Prius or in my old keyfob. Strange, because it works great in all other ways.

Dolj thanks, this may be the clue. In my old keyfob, there is a piece of plastic, but it is rectangular in my keyfob with rounded corners. It has some writing on it and I thought it was just a parts label. It says:
    MDL B31EG
    FCC ID-MOBZ31EG
    IC: 2584A-B31EG
    TOKA RIKA CO., LTD
Could this be it? I tried prying it out with a tiny screwdriver, but it doesn't come loose. Do I need to gouge the surrounding plastic to remove it?

    I'd say so.
I haven't had to do this myself, so my advice is based on what I have read.

This post (Key FOB Replacement | Post #5) by Matt from Texas Hybrid Batteries (member here) where he states that the boards and the RFID chip have to be moved from the old case to the new one. Maybe if you PM him he may be able to add some more information about how to remove the RFID chip.

Let us know how you get on.

I just had to program a new fob, and the process in the original post worked flawlessly, once I figured out I needed to complete Procedure A more briskly. Thanks a bunch for this!

edit: I bought the fob from Daytona Toyota online through Amazon It was $110 with free Prime shipping. If I were more smarter, I could have bought a silicon cover for the old fob for $10, but...Oh well.

Does anyone know if you HAVE to have 1 fully functional key to do this?

I have 2 keys....but they only start the car when inserted. They don't perform any other actions.

YES, you have to have 1 fully functional key to do a "chicken dance" duplicate of the key.

Maybe you can try and just reset the car? Disconnect the 12v for 10 seconds.

Previous owners said they NEVER had the car start without the key in the ignition before. They are original owners. They are older so I am not sure if they just never tried it or if it just never worked from factory.....

I will try the disconnect but I doubt that is it.

If they are original owners, that should work without having the key in the ignition. You have to make sure the SKS button under the steering wheel is turned on. If there's no SKS button, then you have a Prius1, which is the base model without that function. It's right by your knee, when you're sitting in the driver's seat.

It has the button...not sure if it is supposed to be in or out but I have tried both ways with both keys with no luck.

You'll need to get those keys programmed. If you've done this in the past, then the programming was not completed correctly the first time

    SM-N900P ?

Will this process work for 2015 Prius II ?

    Thanks!

I figured out what the RFID chip was, it is a small rectangular piece of graphite-looking stuff, with one corner sawed off, so there are five sides to it. I got it out with a little screwdriver and put it in the new 'old' keyfob. The new 'old' keyfob (only the shell was replaced) worked with everything either with or without the RFID, but it could do programming. After I took the new 'old' keyfob apart and put in the RFID from the old 'old' keyfob, I was able to get Procedure A to work the first time. Then, I did Procedure B three or four times, but it never gave the confirming unlock/lock signal at the last step. It didn't seem to work, but after I moved the old keyfob far away and came back, it did. The new keyfob now locks/unlocks, starts both when inserted and when not. Thank you for your great advice and patience.

Yes, the dealership is telling me the key was not done correctly the first time. They now want 150 for a new key and 150 for the labor...

Locksmiths generally have better prices than the dealer. Pop A Lock is a chain that knows how to deal with Prius.
