It looks like I may need a new HV battery and was wondering if anyone has had much luck with shops in Northern California. I am looking at some shops that do rebuilds or swapping for a rebuilt battery with 1 year warranty and thinking about going this route. Our car is a 2006 and has 163k miles on it and we are looking at getting a new prius anyways so I would rather just put something it that will work a while and invest the extra $ in a newer prius. The post to my diagnosis and problems is below. I am pretty mechanically savvy and have all the tools I'd need to do a replacement but some places I've looked at I can get a rebuilt battery for $600 installed with the 1 year warranty. Any help is much appreciated.

If you have all the tools, you can look on youtube for some videos on module swapping. That's basically what you're going to get for $600. The modules you can buy for less than $50 on Ebay.

This type of repair won't be a lasting repair, but who cares if you don't intend to keep this car long.

I actually found a factory Toyota battery with 50k miles on it for $400 so I think I may go this route

Would you go with the battery with 50k miles or replacing modules in this scenario?

Details on the 50k miles battery? How old is it? How do you confirm it's 50k?

Batteries usually fail from age and sitting around. 50k miles on a 10 year old battery is no better than what you have now.

I have about 225k on my prius and installed a refurbished hybrid battery, depending where in NOR CAL you are I had someone come to me install a refurbished battery for $500 and they came to me and installed it for me. So far it has been 5 months since the battery and the car is solid. Gentleman who also installed it, is a retired Toyota Tech which was also a nice plus.
