Holy! Mine hasn't gotten to that point yet. But I can definitely see the rubber seal peeling away. Knock on wood, so far, it's been staying on. I'll be watching this thread closely. Hope you guys can get it resolved! Good luck!

Hi Chris, are you planning on going with their offer? From what I gather on the web, including international Prius chats - this problem seems to be a universal one, affecting Prius' owners in different countries but with one common issue - the sunroof deflector rubberized material getting aged, cracked and stretched prematurely.
I'm going to my dealership today trying to build a case :)
    Cheers!

Hi Nora, I can't believe Toyota hasn't being aware of the problem which seems affects Prius models 2010 to 2012. And obviously they try to avoid the expenses for fixing those affected. I'm thinking of a more effective way of creating a petition to get this issue publicly recognized by Toyota and resolved...

I agree! Toyota kind of recognize the problem since they offered me some sort of price reduction but on for a limited time. Of course they havent put that offered into writtings too! How do we start this petition? I am also reaching out to automobile writers and tv shows, perhaps further to have my right recognized on my prius legal warranty!

    Thanks, keep sharing!

I think after seeing what the panel trim and seals look above, that it is time to sell my 2012 Prius.
Why? My seals are going again and this is 2 years after they were repaired under warranty.

There is my humble opinion, zero point of having the roof fixed again with the same materials that fail so soon after replacement.
I am however being preemptive until I sell the vehicle and will be gluing the trim down with Lepage Super Glue Ultra Gel instant adhesive.
Which should last maybe a year as instant glues usually have a short adhesion life.

It seems to hold the cracks together and if I am careful, I might be able to restick the deflector trim which is coming off the glass in large sections. I notice that at one point the seal at the rear side of the solar sunroof seems to be starting to come away from the body shown in second to last photo.

Last photo shows window seals starting to show their age. IMG_0757.jpg IMG_0758.JPG IMG_0757.jpg IMG_0758.JPG IMG_0759.JPG IMG_0763.jpg

Might be time to buy a Subaru. Hopefully they won't notice the roof trim problem when I trade it in there.

It is a pity because in general we love the vehicle being predominately trouble free aside from the sunroof Toyota will not stand behind.
Toyota went to a panorama non opening roof since the problems with the opening sunroofs appeared. I wonder what the seals on those sunroofs look like? I am also noticing the rubber on the window seals is starting to fail on mine which is parked outside year round.

Spoke with a nice lady, at Toyota Canada customer service who said that the problem I have is not recognized by them. They would do nothing for me at this point until it becomes a known issue.
She said that they did not recognize Priuschat as a source for reliable information.

If you have not filed a complaint with them, do so now. The toll free CANADIAN number is 1-888-869-6828
If you have a sunroof inspect it for cracking in the seal and call them before the problem causes a leaking roof.
What is needed to find out is the number of vehicles that have this problem and have reported it.

The nice lady did say that if it was determined that Toyota should do something about the seals then with my complaint to them I would be notified at that time.

Wow! I thought I have been subscribed to this thread but have not been receiving comments until Nora's arrived in my mailbox (thank you). My work has not allowed me any time to follow-up with Toyota Canada on this and not aware of all the other comments that have flowed in over the past months, I was not very encouraged for getting a successful response.
However, I will certainly try to take this up at my end shortly. I am willing to participate in any action but I guess first step is to make the official request to Toyota. Thank you all for sharing your stories and I apologize again for being absent!
(note: my rubber seal has not broken in one place but with the warmer weather it seems quite satisfied in sitting in the groove. The cold weather seems to make it twist out.)

I just reached out to Toyota Canada again filling another complain! I have been going around window specialty garages Vitro plus etc and they all agree this is a major poor quality issue and we should not be paying a dime! The fact they offered me to pay 90% of the 6000$ means the recognize the problem. Patience is key with Toyoya...Such a shame, I won't buy a 4th Toyota next time I tell you that!
    thanks, keep in touch!

The worn whitish area near the "TOYOTA" stamp in your first photo is what they're talking about; that's the part that is wearing out.

Just curious, for those who has the deteriorating rubber, are you washing your car going thru car washes like am/pm car wash? After the end of the wash, you pull forward out of the stall and go directly underneath the hot air blower. When I took my 2012 Prius IV solar package to AM PM car wash, that's when I knew I was going to hand wash my prius from here on out. The hot air drier kick wipers around and slighty lifts them at time, thats when I realized the rubber and the solar panel itself are getting beatin up by heat and the wind pressure from the dryer pushing down on the panel is not good.

I'm hand washing my prius now, and applying Trinova marine uv protectant on the glass and rubber surrounds on the top of the prius, hope it keeps thing in order. Thanks everyone for posting their unfortunate situation with the rubber surround, and hope toyota take action on the issue and compensate you all fairly.

Add another to the list! I live in Seattle, WA amd have a 2010 Prius 3 with the same seal problem. It started to happen a few months ago around September/October and has gotten waaaaayyyy worse. I worry it will leak and cause damage. I will be contacting my Toyota dealership on Monday.

Reading all of these problems with the rubber seal and getting Toyota to fix it has me worried. I have a 2014 and haven’t noticed any seal issues. My Prius sleeps in the garage so maybe that helps. I’m also in the southern US and we do not salt our roads often at all here. I only took my car through one of those automatic car washes and won’t be doing that now.

For what it’s worth the first car I drove, 1983 Saab 900, was already about 17 years old when I got my license and it had windshield gasket problems. The windshield gasket was several inches shy of meeting in the middle. It was one piece that snaked around the windshield and it never met in the middle. The windshield never leaked.

No sunroof, but the rubber trim seals outside the left windows of my 2011 disintegrated into a gummy mess.

Cars with seal issues, how often are the sunroofs opened and closed? Could there be a connection with the amount of use?

I've just noticed the same problem on my 2010 Prius, and am wondering how everyone got this resolved. If the seal is just cosmetic, does that mean there should be no damaged if removed and not replaced? Did anyone find an alternative fix to replacing the entire thing @ 2k and up??
