I haven't been able to get it working at all. Have others experienced this problem?

At least it is still covered by warranty.

Are you using D 'gear', not B?

Make sure you're in Drive (D) and not Engine Brake (B).

I'm not sure, I'll have to check, Thanks.
Is that in the 1,000+ pages of owners manuals?

Yes, it is. (At least, it is in my Gen3 manual.) But if my codes mean nothing to you, read Tideland's more verbose reply, it refers to the exact same thing.

I tried it and you're right. Cruise will not engage if you're in B mode. The instructions do say to start in D mode but not a word to indicate that the system will not engage in B mode.
Prius Chat to the rescue, thanks.

I'm sure it's in the manual, somewhere, to not engage cruise control in B mode. That's been a caution in the manuals of the Gen2 and the Gen3 for a long long time.

I am not trying to be flippant, but why were you in B mode? We have some 6000' passes nearby and I sometimes use it on the descent. Other than that, I don't go there.

Don't drive in B. Only use B when descending long downgrades.

Yeah that's the page I'm looking at as well.

It would've said "The shift position is in D or B" if it was the case that "B" works with DRCC. But because it only said "D", it's implied that it won't work in any other modes (P, R, N or B).

True but it's unreasonable for Toyota to assume that a new owner with no experience in a Prius of any sort would understand that, particularly in the latest generation vehicles. I found the first few days I had the car very stressful as I tried grasp to all the interactive parts. For the first few days I was a very distracted driver and didn't dare venture out in difficult traffic.
It's OK now and I love the car but for a few days I was wondering if I had made a big mistake.

Yeah unless you're coming down a mountain leave it in D. Actually, with a plug in like the Prime, maybe even that goes out the window?

I know but English is English. It's listing the criteria in which cruise control can be set. Here's the one from the CH-R which is not a hybrid. It has the same language. At least the language is consistent from vehicle to vehicle.

a lot of newbies make the 'b' mistake, and sales critters are of no help.

Another time DRCC shuts off is if you have some dirt on the front Toyota emblem. It can interfere with the radar (mounted behind the plastic emblem). Just clean the plastic logo with a damp cloth and restart your Prius to re-enable DRCC.

I'd say we're in a new age of cabin tech and the manufactures have a lot to learn about usability. IMHO Toyota's cabin tech is a mess but I love the car anyway now that I've spend hours and hours figuring things out. At >1000 pages that pile of owners manuals is probably a world record for poorly done.

agreed, although i don't have any other cars to compare it to. user interface and human design are not specialties at toyota.

You know when you get a new car and there's little tags on some stuff, held on with a ribbon, critical info? They should hang one on the shifter, explaining B mode, when to use. The Owner's Manual's doesn't say much, really not much help.

The quick reference guide to my Gen3 is 'merely' 8 pages. DRCC is on page 4, regular CC on page 6, and both clearly call for 'D'.

While the Prime's quick reference must have ballooned even more, surely it ought to still be under 20-ish pages. But maybe it is time to start making an Ultra Quick Reference Guide too, now that Quick Reference Guides can no longer fit onto anything like the single page they once used.
