Blind Spot Monitor or Compact Spare

    Well over a grand, at the dealer yeah. You could do it cheaper if you buy the parts yourself. However, it is doable. BSM on the other hand is nearly impossible to retrofit. If it's possible, it'll cost way more than retrofitting a spare at the dealer.

    I know a UK member has been able to retrofit (he had a really nice dealership that was willing to do that) and ha to pay for the different foam pieces that would hold the spare tire so it's not cheap.

    The cheaper (and cruder) alternative is simply by the spare tire and put it in a tire bag and leave it in the trunk or back seat.

    I may have found the best solution. It appears that Toyota now has a Prius Three $1,000 safety plus option (BF) that includes the blind spot monitor, intelligent clearance sonar, and intelligent parking assist. To make matters better, the price is completely offset by a $1,000 safety plus credit (BG). Of course, if you want some of the features that are only found on the Four, this option will not help you.

    I saw this option on both the AutoGuide and Edmunds websites, but have not verified it with any dealers. But I have seen dealer websites that show a $1,000 bonus allowance (in addition to the $1,500 Toyota rebate) for model Threes in inventory that do not have these safety features.

    I see with Toyota Canada too: blind-spot monitor comes with "advanced package", which also "features" "delete spare tire".

    It amazes me how different all the specs for equipment are all over the world. I have BSM and spare tyre - UK "Business Edition" (one up from the base model).

    I've verified that the Safety Plus option (blind spot monitor, etc.) on the Three continues to have the compact spare.

    Yep, different here - only 2 models - base has spare, no BSM available. "i-TECH" model no spare available, but BSM.

    Me too! Have my cake & eat it. BSM isn't always perfect, but now I've been living with it, I consider it an essential feature.

    I too have the Biz Edn which (as standard) also has self-leveling heads, heated seats, HUD and DRCC plus other acronyms I can't remember. No IPA, or rear parking sensors though there is the alert for crossing traffic, CTA (?).

    @raspy , I thought you had a BE+ or higher spec.

    One thing worth noting is that the floor in the spare tire-equipped models is high enough to handle a full-size tire even though one isn't included in the US.

    However, the floor on the models without spare tire is high enough for a spacesaver spare, with removal of the foam under the floor, or cutting it out, as @krousdb found: Compact Spare for Two Eco | PriusChat
