    Dear Friends,
    i have 2014 Prius, 50000 mile.
recently i faced the problem twice, after turning the AC in Hot weather (around 95 F, 35 C). but after i turn the car for while it back to normal state.
    here is the problem.
after turning the AC and drive a around 10 miles, i feel the car is heavy and it lacks of power, i push the power pedal down more but not that response.
also, when i take my foot off, the RPM is not slowing down as usual, it takes more time to rev back to normal RPM ( it feels like the throttle is still pressed).
moreover, the trip consumption for the 10 miles usually around 45 MPG, after this case, it becomes 33.

but after leaving the car for some time, it back to normal case. also, no messages display on screen.

what may causes this problem? and how to fix it?

    My Best regards.

it might be the heat. the battery is protected from overheating. do you park in the sun?

Probably the problem is heat related. You might need to have and diagnostic codes read to determine if there's a specific component that is the source of your problem. One proactive task that might help that you can easily perform is to make sure the hybrid battery cooling fan is clear and operating properly. There are videos on this site that show how to clean the fan.

if you don't carry animals or the like, it's probably just from the sun.
make sure the back seat intake vent isn't blocked.
do you use window shades and/or tinting?

I used to have a Scangauge II in my Prius 2014.

I actually notice in some scenarios, the battery internal temperature can go up to 120F (Hot weather, full battery then park under the sun). The car will feel sluggish. I think it is because the car is limiting the current from/to the battery. Regen will limit its current at 30A. The engine is louder too.

    • Driving on the highway ...
    • with 2 bars of fan .
    • with AC on
    • fresh air mode

cools down battery to 95~F quickly. Then the car will feel normal again. In highway speed the battery is not used that much, and the exhaust air from the cabin go pass the battery vent.
