Sometimes "snarky" is an appropriate response......like in this case.

And I think the first thing to do is a thorough inspection, looking for things that are damaged or disconnected.
But if you aren't familiar with the model, that might not be effective either.
And he doesn't seem to want any of my advice so ........I quit.
    Good luck.

another not very helpful post. I din't understand why you would waste your time typing all that.
What cars I buy is my personal choice.
I asked specific questions, which doesn't matter what the car is - car shuts off. Have you expereienced it before. Yes or no .If yes tell me what the experience was. That's i t full stop.
Also I asked about the emergency shutoff system.

the only useful response was the reference to the techstream software.

Never said it wasn't. But when asking for evaluation and advice in a public forum. Full disclosure about it being a Salvaged Vehicle should be part of the revelation about the state of the vehicle.

Uh...no. The fact that it's a Prius and a Hybrid, really does matter.

My speculation is that is it not the emergency shut off system...because the emergency shut off system is designed to "shut things off"". Which means you wouldn't be able to start the engine and then have it stall...But this is a speculative guess.

Yep, and I agree that's a good place to start.

Good Luck with your Salvage Project.
    Do keep us updated.

Right back at 'ya. Pot, kettle, black.

P.S. A couple of us are trying to help you by giving you pointers on improving your communication skills.
If you would LISTEN instead of flying off the handle, maybe it actually WOULD help you some. Maybe.

It takes two to sustain an argument. Whoever backs out gracefully is the winner, IMHO.

so a quick updates for the haters - with the help of a VCI cable, techstream, TIS subscription and some elbow grease the car is fixed and running great.

For those that actually want to know what happened - it didn't require any of that technology although it helped to ascertain that everything was basically ok. ECU complained that the engine was producing less power than expected. Turned out to be a crack in the intake manifold in a place that is hard to see - essentially a very large vacuum leak.

    Hope this helps someone

Worthwhile hooking up a vacuum gauge then. I've got one kicking around, forget I even have it though. I wonder if there's a spare vacuum spigot readily available? If not you could use a T-connection, tap in to another vacuum line.

Very interesting - thanks for the follow-up. How much effort / cost is it going to be to replace the intake manifold?

So no specific flags for a vacuum leak? What DTCs were on the engine ECU? (Or perhaps P3191 the only one that showed)

And no accident battery lock out, I gather. Good show! (y)

How do you define "haters" exactly ??

Maybe I am one; it upsets me when people post what they think is good information when it really IS NOT.
Your post told us basically NOTHING useful.

If "the fancy technology" wasn't really needed, then what exactly DID point you to the source of the problem ??

Glad you found the problem! Trouble shooting is half the battle.
