is it a prime, or 2014? prime should be under warranty, if less than a year old. even if older, i would press for warranty, that is unacceptable.

Your profile says it's a 2014. Is this about a Prius Prime or a 2014? You posted in the Prius Prime forum.

Mine also has a dash rattle near the gauge cluster. I’m taking mine in next week.

I think we have the same issue. I have heard my dash noise a while back and now is popped. The noise is coming right under the dash.

I can't believe what I'm reading and seeing! Dashboards popping up?!? Is the Prime plagued with more flaws and issues than the regular Gen4 hatchback? I'm seeing threads about misaligned rear hatches. Paint bubbling up where the body panels meet. Rattles in the dashboard, and now a floating moving dash??? All kinds of glitches in the Bluetooth/iPhone hook up stuff. And many reports of cracking windshields! :cautious:

Is it poor quality control? Is it sloppy assembly-line workers? We need more robots and LESS humans! :ROFLMAO: I don't care how good the gas mileage is on these cars, if they continue to be plagued with all these flaws and problems it is not worth owning. In my humble opinion.

Or maybe we just have to accept all the crappy sloppy assembly, in order to get 100 miles to a gallon. Be glad that the Prime has all those good rebates and discounts. Otherwise, I sure as heck wouldn't pay $34,000 for one of those cars.

New upper dash installed today. Test drive around and no more tick noise.
Hope this will last for a long time.

By the way, I have my dash cam recorded the replacement process. It was fun to watch how they took my dash off.. seem very easy.

I have actually had the same dash rattling problem, coming from about the middle portion of the dash. At first I thought it was because I installed the Nav / Video override (similar picture attached), where the (thinner) black box in the kit is secured by mounting tape on the top side of the head unit, but was fairly sure the noise was happening before I did that install. I have not noticed that anything is 'popped' as the OP showed, but I also haven't taken a closer look. What I definitely narrowed down that if I tapped (or punched) the area in the middle to middle right of the dash (towards the passenger side) I could replicate the rattling without hitting any bumps (which is usually when it happens) It also seems to be worse in colder weather, but not necessarily.

I am taking it in this Friday for a different issue, where I have a squeaky steering wheel, which is also a symptom that shows up at lower temperatures. I have also noticed a third issue, where the screen remains completely black when the car is first powered on under cold temperatures. The physical side buttons respond to commands like turning on the radio, but there is no output at all on the screen (black). This has happened 3 times now -- the first and second time time I turned the car off and on quickly and it behaved normally. The third time today, probably the coldest it's been since I've turned the car on for driving, the issue persisted through two reboots, and resolved on the third reboot.

This last issue reminds me of the Gen2 issues with the bad solder joint where the touchscreen would stop operating/responding after a bad heatwave. I'm making 2 different threads for these two unrelated issues, and I'll link them from here once those are done, to keep this one on-topic, though.

My car also has more rattles now. One coming from the dashboard on the passenger side and another coming from the driver side door. The roads in the Bay Area are atrocious so it’s pretty easy to spot Toyota’s shoddy craftsmanship.

Sorry for the last reply... Unfortunately i have deleted the video. From my dash video, in order to remove the dash, I think the 2 front spk cover shall be 1st removed (pop up) and there are screws holding the dash together. After that just basically pull it off. I have not done this myself but seem very easy to remove and put it back together.

I think very soon I will take it apart again because I'm getting some minor ticking noise back. Maybe the dealer can't hear as their shop is so noisy. This car is so quiet and is very easy to hear ticking noise when my radio is off... I think this is the only cons that I have for this car....I'm happy for Everything else..

I find that whatever the cold weather does to the plastic dash interior, it makes weird sounds in winter.

Is that just a piece of very thin foam, or.. ? I didn't hear mine rattle when I got mine back today after the steering column replacement for the nails on chalkboard type squeaking, but will see if it comes back...
