Sorry i tried to search but can't find anything about this. Is there a DIY for engine replacement for a gen3 (2010-2015) Prius out there? I bought a 2010 prius with bad motor and im doing the engine replacement right now. It would be nice if we have a DIY so it would make my job a lot faster. Btw this is a 2010 Prius, the engine has a hole in it. Not sure why?

If you’re not using it already, I’d recommend Toyota’s Repair Manual for the 2010 Prius (RM1290U or RM1291U), available by subscription to techinfo.toyota.com, and perhaps also via your local public library, if they sponsor access to the ChiltonLibrary service for their patrons. The Repair Manual includes illustrated, step-by-step instructions for removing and installing the engine assembly and the other parts involved. It also gives fastener torque specifications and identifies required equipment and special service tools.

Sorry i didnt read your post. Here are some pictures of the recent engine replacement. So we decided to go with the hard way which it dropped the engine and transmission from the bottom of the car instead the top. The used engine we purchased off a crashed vehicle with broken intake manifold. The plastic pieces from the intake manifold got into the valve and i couldn't turn the engine manually. I had to spray some brake cleaner and burn it for the plastic pieces to melted out so i can turn the engine freely. After that everything went smoothly except for the P-lock cable didnt get plugged in all the way and I can't start the car cause it wasnt in park. After plugged it in all the way the car start and run like a champ.

    cool video!

i could probably get it apart, but it would never go back together, and there'd be a whole lot of leftover parts :ROFLMAO:

That's what I thought only 2 weeks ago, yet here I go. Just backed it into the boathouse (20x13 enclosed carport), and I'm going to have a bite to eat before I start. Kinda like a "last meal"

Good luck. Your engine had a hole in it because it likely threw a rod after running without oil, or some other catastrophic event.

Before you put the used engine in the car, you might want to read about the problem with the 2010 to 2014 ish Prius engines with seized oil control rings and head gasket failures.

How many miles are on the used engine? What year is it from?
