people! I'm just wondering, if the performance of any gen2 Prius can be increased using another HV battery(increasing the voltages).

I already understand that Toyota typically designed the Prius from bottom up, for basically for less emissions, and gasoline cost savings, with some little HP available.

    Here's what I'm thinking:
Since a Prius electronics, or HV ECU has being configured for its current 201+...volts from the HV battery, isnt it possible,

1)for a highlander battery, with same capacity(6.5Ah), and nominal voltage of 9.6V to be added along side the stock HV battery of the Prius, inorder to produce more torque for either of the MG 1/2?

    2) or alternatively, can I use one of a highlander pack(24modules rated at 9.6volt=230.4volts combined)?

    3) if any of the above were possible, I guess the HV wiring harnesses, ECU would have to be replaced with ones that could bear the load(current. Although, current would still be same).

PS: Using some of the highlander battery pack(the 2* 12modules), should reduce the space the stock Prius pack occupies.

I know incorporating electric motors on the rear wheels would also add more HP.

I'm specific about additional batteries (whether some of the highlander, or otherwise)
@MTL_hihy . Can you chip in some word or two, since you've worked extensively on hybrid highlanders?

Well, bisco! You're always giving SUMMARISED ANSWERS:D. I need technical inputs from you on its workability. Remember, this is still in its IMAGINATION stage(s).

sorry, technical is above my pay grade. skeptical is my m.o., the problem is, we have seen lot's of ideas come through here, but no one ever follows through after realizing the amount of work involved.

for instance, we got a guy in another thread who is going to install gull wing doors and a diesel engine.

The DeLorean, for instance, had gullwing doors.

The ECUs in the Prius coordinate the working of the two electric motors and ICE. The programming involved in making everything work together is very complex and likely involved a large engineering team at Toyota to make it work. It's not practical to think a single person could create new ECUs for the Prius to manage the HSD systems. Therefore the approach taken with aftermarket battery packs is to send a fake signal the ECU to make it think the battery is at ~100% and then wire a power supply connected to a large lithium ion battery wired in parallel with the existing HV battery to feed current to the system. The Prius ECUs are pretty happy to feed ~30A of current to the motors all day, until the extra battery is depleted, at which point the systems disconnect an the car behaves as normal.

The Enginer battery systems worked like this: Enginer | Prius Plugin PHEV Conversion Kit with Lithium-Ion | Hybrid

However with the cost of these aftermarket systems, there's no real reason to buy one today. I would just go buy a used/new plug-in Prius/Prime/Volt instead.

I saw a video where they have a Prius with 3 yes... THREE HV batteries with the gas engine removed. Very interesting... so yes anything is possible!

let's see, 3 hv batteries = 3 miles, then you have to recharge them.(n)

You probably don't see the spectacular and awesomely wondrous advantages of daylight savings time either. :ROFLMAO::D:ROFLMAO: Anything is possible but not everything is useful.

Its a great thought but the issue is that this setup probably won't play nice (you can't just match total voltages because the ECU checks them by block, thus the Highlander pack would be the same total voltage but the blocks would mismatch) with the Prius ECU without doing some serious custom work. You'd be far better to double or triple up on Prius packs to extend your range because it would be far easier technically to make them work without getting too technical in the process. It's sort of like daisy chaining RC batteries for both charging and discharging. You would need to do regular grid charge top ups to ensure none fall behind in use but it would definitely work (although you'd need to give up some trunk space to do it).
