I was curious if I am using navigation and running in EV Auto does the car use the navigation to plan when to use the battery and when to use the gas instead of simply by power needs in real time.

For instance, if I have 10 miles of EV battery and go on a 30 mile trip will it plan to exhaust the full 10 miles EV by the time I hit the destination in the best places?

Then I read that it also tries to guess where you are going based on past trips. So I guess even when not using navigation the car always is remembering where it has travelled. Is this how EV Auto decides what to do, or is based on real time power needs?

i think it learns your trips and tries to use the most efficient power based on that. it's called predictive driving. but i don't think using all the battery is part of the equation.

Um no. Predictive Efficient Drive and EV Auto really have nothing to do with each other. PED just collects daily driving data to predict points of deceleration and stopping. EV Auto is a mode that allows the engine to kick in under extreme demand (flooring it) for extra power as opposed to just EV mode that does not allow the engine to come on, (unless you get to allow battery condition of if you exceed a certain speed.)

The car does not tie PDS and EV Auto together to guess where you're going, etc., etc..

What does PED do? Once it has predicted these points, does it make the car drive different somehow? Arn't I still hitting the gas and brakes anyways?

The manual explains it better than I can. See OM page 217 and Navigation manual page 213. If you have a point registered and your foot is off the gas and off the brake, it will start light regen braking for you.

Thanks that is interesting, but it appears it might only be for models with 11" screen unless I missed it somewhere else:

    Predictive Efficient Drive (Pre
    dictive Deceleration Support)
    (vehicles with 11.6-inch display)
When a predictive deceleration support point registered in the navigation sys-
tem is approached, the system turns off the Eco accelerator guide and
encourages the driver to reduce excessive acceleration.
For details about Predictive Efficient Dr
    ive (Predictive Deceleration Support),
refer to the “NAVIGATION SYSTEM OWNER’S MANUAL”.

PED is a feature of the Advanced trim. Plus and Premium are out of luck. In reality, it isn't much of a big deal, and is occasionally unreliable. You aren't missing much.

Thanks that makes sense now. Although I don't have it to test, I agree that it doesn't seem to offer much. I still fail to see what the usefulness of it really is.

 I stand corrected. I should not rely on "info" from early reviews of the Prime.

There's a thread on this subject, with myself in there trying to figure out the weirdness of the feature.
