As it was a while ago, I thought it might be useful to start with a quote of Paul's advice on resetting the ABS light etc., with a jumper on the OBD2 port. Like many others, I thought replacing the front pads on a late 2004 Prius would be easy. Done it many times on Saabs, but still looked at 'Haynes' to make sure there was nothing out of the ordinary. Wrong! Should have looked here first. - Haynes needs an update. I did not disconnect the battery or remove any relays etc.

I now have a car with locked front brake pads and displaying 3 yellow lights - VSC - ABS and Brake system warning light (along with the red one). Unfortunately, the jumper trick does not seem to work on the earlier model, but rather than risk a paper clip, I cut the plug off an old OBD2 and soldered a wire between the CG and TC pins to make a safe bridge - if anyone wants to do this, be warned that the pins are numbered differently on the inside of the plug, so DO NOT just solder 4 and 13 but make sure that when plugged in, the socket pins 4 and 13 are the ones that are connected.

If anyone has any advice on how to sort out my problem Prius, I would be most grateful for any reply. Failing that, it looks like I might need to read up on 'Tech Stream'. Hope this post helps someone else.

I put my 2006/7 on a uhaul tow dolly. After a 15 mile trip these 4 lights were on my dashboard. I tested my ABS and sure enough it was not enabled. I just did the paper clip trick and the lights turned off. I have no yet tested the care to see if my ABS is working again but I will later during the drive home. Thank you, thank you, thank you! A dealership wanted to charge me slightly under $100 to attach there code reader and reset it for me.

The HV battery is a high voltage battery that could kill you straightway.
The battery in your explorer, is a 12volts battery, so won't work.

Maybe I didn't get you well though.
Are you saying you want to use your explorers 12vokt battery to JumpStart the Prius aux battery in your car, or what?

If that's what you mean, definitely it can be used.

Have dried that before, using JumpStart cables

what windows do you power down half way and for how long do you have it halfway open for. I saw this somewhere else online a while back but couldn't find it.

You do this with any window that's not doing auto-up correctly, ie: a single up touch and it doesn't continue on it's own.

Hold down switch till halfway down, then hold up switch till it's all the way up, and continue to hold up switch for at least 2 more seconds. That should fix it.

Thank you Paul Haller! Worked on my 2004 Prius. Any Idea if it works on a 2001 Highlander?

I don't know if it will work with a 2013, it worked on my 2005 last week. The rear drums were replaced and the ABS idiot light came on. Jumper worked like a champ.

I didn't pump the brakes before I removed it. I saw a video which just showed turning the key on, letting the lights flash for 40 seconds, turning the car off and removing the jumper.

No, you have to pump brakes just like Paul's method states.
