Enable rear camera display while driving?

Why I had messed with it in the 1st place? Try to see I I can get the reverse beep to go off!!

 

It's perfectly fine to touch service menu settings to perform known and confirmed functions such as enabling rear camera display while driving, nav hack, etc. What's a no no is messing with settings which you have no knowledge of like in your case.

 

Using the service menu to enable the rear camera is not a good idea as Chris have demonstrated. Besides it puts the nav into into service settings so nothing works. The audio, nav, bluetooth dont work. This is why I use the hardware hack. This is a lot easier to do than bypassing the speed lock.

 

No, what Chris has demonstrated is it's not a good idea to mess with unknown settings. I hack into the service menu all the time to override the nav lockout in motion in my Lexus as needed. But I agree, if you want to enable rear camera on a regular basis it's better to do a hardware hack.

 

Here's the diagram for those that want to wire up a switch to enable the reverse camera while driving. The switch you need is an ON-ON SPDT rocker switch. The reverse signal wire is the pink wire on pin 5 of the gray plug behind the nav screen. This mod can done on Gen II as well. You just need to locate the reverse trigger wire to the screen. Also, it would help if your car actually has a rear camera. Enjoy and have fun.

Alternatively, you can do a blind spot monitor mod that also has the enable rear camera while driving feature.

Now this can be done without messing with OEM wires lol. Buy this kit Rear View Camera Connection Cable to Toyota GEN5 / GEN6 and this cable is the activation cable for rear view camera, just hook it up to a button that gives 6 volts i believe and it turns on the rear view camera. I found out this when i tried to add a front camera on my car with this kit lol, when i pressed the button for the front camera i had installed the rear camera appeard on the screen instead lol.
