You can change it and if you're fast, the car won't reset anything. If you can't change it fast enough, trip A/B will be reset (as far as I remember).

 

Radio presets will be lost as well.

 

You can change it yourself but be sure to get an AGM battery that can be vented outside. The 12 volt battery is located inside the car and you do not want battery gasses escaping into the passenger area.
When you are standing behind the car with the hatch door open, the battery is located on the right hand side of the cargo area.

 

Connect a low amperage (1.5A) battery charger to the jump starting terminal in the fuse box under the hood before you disconnect the 12V battery and you won't lose anything.

 

If I recall correctly: roll it down, then all the way up while lifting the button the whole time, then continue to hold up for an additional 2 seconds or more. You may or may not need to do this. The last couple of times I've disconnected: no window problems.

There are ways to retain memories to, google "12 volt memory saver" should get results. I use a special OBD cable with my jump pack.

 

I've done nothing with with the hybrid battery, so far. It is definitely more complex, and step one is to remove the orange "switch", to isolate it. Replacing the switch is a little tricky, you have do several actions, the opposite of removal, but not that obvious.

Checking and refurbishing the battery is complex, again, I've no experience. But there are people here doing that, perhaps they will comment. Maybe start a thread with hybrid battery in the title, will get more attention.

 

Working on the HV battery can be dangerous (life threatening) if not done correctly.
@jeff652 or @ericbecky should be able to offer some advice on your situation.

Did the harness install in a Gen2 Prius a couple of weeks back and also have a harness on our 2010 Prius II.

Pretty simple to do, but definitely something you need to do with respect for electricity in mind.

 

The 12v is behind the rear seat on the passenger side isn it? I think you can connect to it via the fusebox in the front though. I have not checked it out yet. Seems kind of weird but I saw some lady jump start her car that way so I am guessing this is connected to the rear battery somehow. I was thinking of hooking up LED light bar and front camera to the same spot up front.

I notice for the Gen 2 Prius, the install of the harness seems easier, connecting the Prolong harness to the battery side of the battery disconnect relay per step 18 in the below:

I recently did the harness install for my Camry, and I had to open up the battery cover and connect the harness directly to the battery. This also seems to be how it would be for the 2010 Prius per the below:

Is there a way to connect the harness to the battery side of the disconnect relay, just like for the Gen 2, without opening the traction battery cover? I am planning to install the harness for my 2010 Prius in the next few days.

When we installed my harness (I did this with @jeff652 ), we followed the instructions .

Don’t forget once you have this connected there is 240 volts of dc running through the connections, so protecting it is a safety step if nothing else.

It only took under 2 hours to install and the harness is made with built in tie points to keep the harness in place.

Unfortunately, no. Toyota eliminated the nut/stud solution and went to snap in connectors. There is no practical way to tap into that style connector, which is why the connections must be done at the modules themselves.
