    Hello,
Would an owner of a Gen 2 with a back-up camera, be willing to post pictures of the inside of the tailgate with the back panel off? What I am interested in, is the harness that the OEM camera plugs into. Since the OEM camera has a female plug, I want to know what the other side looks like and if there is an adapter that plugs into the wiring harness?
Much thanks in advance. Here is a picture of the Backup camera and harness.....

This looks good. How much are you spending on this project? Please take pics of your entire process. FYI: a very firm pull takes the entire back panel off (you need to do this to replace license plate bulbs).

That's very easy to access. The plastic inside part of the hatch just pops off. Get a set of plastic pry bars that shops use to remove dashboard, door liners, and such. If they aren't available, a screwdriver will work if you're careful to not scratch the paint.

IIRC, you need to remove the top part before the bottom, but it's been a while. It should be obvious when you look at it.

Thanks, I have been able to access the back panel, but I wanted pictures from someone else with a Gen 2, who would be willing to post (pictures) of how their CAMERA is connected to the Jack on the inside of the car back panel.

OK. Got it now. I won't be able to do that till the weekend. Hopefully, someone can post something sooner than that.

Thanks Jerry, a local hybrid shop suggests if I have a 2005 with a GPS -which I do-, I may need to swap the whole rear door harness for one with a Back-up camera plug, then attach the camera to the (now available) plug. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like a good idea for the back end. I don't know though, if the MFD will accept and display the camera's output. Have you checked that part? The 2006 and newer have a higher resolution display as well as the camera, so you might need an MFD from one of those. I would check into that, too.

There's a company in Duluth Georgia that makes the interface for the navigation backup camera. The receipt I have showed it cost $275 back in 2009. Not sure if anything has changed.

    V,
Hopefully these pictures help you and others out. I'm in the process of switching over the base MFD to the high res version so it can be compatible with the OEM camera.

@DangNabbit , is that the hatch wiring loom? Does your Prius have the camera wire in the roof? (I have a 2004, so I had to run my own wire from the hatch to the MFD) I’ve been curious wheather Toyota used a standard loom in the roof for 2006-09 that had the camera wire—I know that the hatch loom has two different part numbers, one with camera and one without. (Also, there is another thread where they were asking about that loom part number EDIT: I see you’ve already been there. Yet another rear camera question - Loom?)

Yes, that is the hatch wiring loom. I spent a good 30-45 minutes trying to unravel the spaghetti electrical tape wiring yesterday just to get the 4 cables for the OEM camera connector (in one piece). I think it would have better just to buy the pigtail connector with camera (some eBay sellers cut the cable a few inches behind the camera.) Then it would have been easier to run new wires and tap into the rooftop connector.

I’m almost certain that I have the wire connectors for camera at the rooftop wiring harness. I’ll take pics and update.

The part numbers In the pictures are for

Hatch wire loom with camera connector (this came from a 2008 according to the eBay listing)

    OEM backup camera

Mfd 4 button, no nav (which I hope is the high res). I haven’t plugged it in so I hope it works.

Yes, 47230 is the part number of the high-res MFD :)

Here are pictures of the connector. This is the connector closest to the top of the hatch/glass (near antenna). This is for the left wire loom.

Much thanks DangNabbit. Great pictures and step wise walk-through. I have been out of town so have not yet seen my Wire Harness. Should get it today (fingers crossed). I will open the top section of my 2005 Prius Hatch and post any pictures I am able to get of the harness and plugs available.

Did you get your camera OEM installed?

My camera is in, finally. For now is just snapped into the door cutout.
I'll determine if any adjustments are needed then add the bolts
to hold it in....I ran a new cable from the rear to the MFD. Didn't
want to figure out which wiring nodes are in and not in. I used
a shielded 3 core 22 awg cable, aliexpress and ran it down the
passenger side running boards etc. The right side cable hinge
of the rear hatch, headliner down along the clear hose, then
forward in the running boards up the passenger kick plate and
past the glove box to the MFD.

I did find the T13 jack has different colours from the MFD to the camera.

PIN T13 chasis T13 plug camera cable
    1 Shield Shield Video Gnd
    2 RED Yellow Video NTSC
    3 WHITE Black GND
4 BLACK Red +6V Camera power nominal 85ma draw

    Cheers

My vehicle is still torn apart. I haven’t had a chance to remove the driver seat to find the hidden cable. This is the wire harness that goes to the m14 area in the MFD.

I couldn’t get my camera to sit nicely in the notch. Do you have a picture of how yours sits inside and where you drilled the holes on the tailgate?
