Well that's it! Cylinder no4 just snapped it's conrod and put a couple of holes in the housing. Time for an engine change.

So the question is, can I just get another engine only or do I need to make sure I get the ecu to go with it?

I guess I'd use all the sensors off the old one, just to be sure. But a good used engine should just shoehorn right in. No different ECU required.

That's gotta be the rarest failure I've heard of. It would be interesting to figure out what happened.

    17 years, huh?
    Man.
They just don't make them like they used to.........;)

    Good Luck with the hunt!!!
Let us know how it turns out, and if you're going to swap out the motor yourself or pay it done.

You don't need a any ECU for the swap.

Good good. Yes nice suggestion about the sensors. From one of my other posts, this engine has had a misfire on no4 for sometime before I got it. I figured out it was the injector so I'm not sure if this has helped to kill it. And yes I will be doing the work to change it. I've done conventional engines so I just need to factor in isolating the HV battery.

Update: I've found a second hand 2002 engine with only 58k miles! Warrantied and on its way to me. Fingers crossed the courier doesn't drop it......

App doesn't want to let me do it. Just leave it as it will keep people amused when they have to turn their phone or monitor to see it. Thanks anyway.

I bought a used engine for my Dodge pickup yesterday. Pretty excited, mine's a 96 with 256,000 miles on it, the newer one is an 01, with only 104,000. Guess what I'll be doing this fall? For now I'm just going to overhaul the seals and gaskets, make it tight.
