Parking, reverse, right/left turn are bulbs. just buy new bulb and replace them if they burn out. but if the brake light which are LED's run out you have to replace whole assembly as mention above.

i see in the early posts, someone mentioned that this was a 'mistake' by toyota, i couldn't agree more. that being said, my neighbors '04 is still fine, so i guess you can't complain about 10 years of service.

This is the direction all manufacturers are taking.....look at BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Chevy, Kia etc.

I replaced the assembly after checking for 12V to the LED board. Found one for $73+s/h on Amazon, AutoHalo.

2004 prius - bought new tail lights (because of those dimmed leds) 155k. voltage checks at the connector ? - should all be 12v or lass? mid left one is 30v? cant find values anywhere ,so assuming it should be 12v or less.

    Let me guess....

When the Gen4 LED headlight or brake light burns out, a replacement bulb will cost $3,478!:eek::eek: :ROFLMAO:

Your assumption is correct and therefore I question whether your meter is working correctly. Start with something simple like measuring the voltage across a 9V battery. A new battery should measure 9.6V or so.
