CV joint problems?

Great work. I had the same issue on my Gen2. The noise was coming from the driver's side axle (inner joint). I used to hear the clicking noise when making a U-turn or any sharp left or right turns especially with slope involved. I replaced the axle by myself and the problem is gone. I just purchased an used part (43420-47020) for $50 (Pulled from 08, 67000mile Prius) from the local used parts shop. The shop showed me 5 other shafts of the same ID, but 2 of them already showing the "worn-out" sign, which is in this picture(The one on the left). If you are getting an used part, you never want a part like this (basically, the inner boot is fully extended, meaning the internal mechanism is being pushed out). When I pulled my original clicking axle, it was exactly like this.

 

oh my, that is a big issue. toyota should be called to the carpet and made to replace all 16 year old axle/cv joints

 

What pushes it out?
